What is considered "unsportsmanlike conduct" in softball

by nsidethelines » Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:23 am

While we are on the subject, don't you agree that if a coach gets thrown out of a game he should be dismissed for the following game as well (in the same tournament)? I'm thinking this should be a standard.

I'm not sure about that, I think it should depend on why he was tossed. But, when he is cussing the ump in front of the girls, he should be tossed for the tournament.

If nothing illegal is done, how could it be considered "unsportsmanlike"? The rules are there for you to use. Nobody really wants to go another inning if they do not have to.

Now, on another note. I think it could be considered if the umpire is encouraging it!!

I would rather see all select tournaments go to a 4 or 5 inning format for a game instead of a clock. It would eliminate the waist of time by coaches and umpires. I have seen both. If you know you have to play 4 or 5 you can get them done and still be on time. It also simulates what they will be facing when they get to the Varsity level in HS.

Most games are about that many innings anyway unless they are pitcher dominated.

As stated in a post earlier this year that is unsportsmanlike and "bush league" when you do it and good clock management when I do it. :D

I like the Drop Dead time limit Pool game & # of innings w/no time limit Bracket game format.

It seems to get the stands coaches and players going more than anything else.

BTW...I have seen some coaches who care more about getting the most out of the girls and less about are we going to have to play another inning.

Honestly, how many of you want to win games just because your girls can stall? How will that help them learn about the game or work on skills?

As far as wasting time goes I see 2 schools of thought.

1) We played in our first USFA tourney a few weeks back and the only difference I saw was that they stopped the clock on injuries, coaching visits, or pitching changes if there was under 5 minutes. I like this idea.

Now to contradict myself.

2) If it's the bottom of an inning and the home team is losing they will normally complain if there appears to be stall tactics. Please correct me if I am wrong but didn't the other team have an equal amount of at bats? Having said that, I don't owe you the luxury of hurrying along to allow you another chance to beat me.
