TXfastpitchsoftball-

I know at least one of the kids Dan is talking about, and everyone knew when she was in 8th grade her future was in D1 ball, a complete no brainer. You should stick around to hear where she ends up, the kid works her tail off and deserves anything that she gets!

I am of the opinion that a true evaluater of talent can tell when someone is D1 material when they are eleven 10-12 years of age. It becomes a matter of fine tuning all of the god gifted talent that will cause her to shine everytime time she steps between the lines as well as off the field when they walk out of the dugout.

Now it is even more important to teach all aspects of the game at a high level, agility and condition training for and constant motivation as well as keeping it fun for these girls even more at 2nd year 10U and 12U, because when 14U comes around all kidding aside, is when they begin to recognize their true potential.

That's crazy Slap, athleticism considered, most girls hit the growth spurt 11-13 and change significantly with regard to strength, hand eye, etc....You are right about pre-positioning them with proper mechanics, so when they hit the growth spurt, all is in order. But no question there are some 12U studs who stop there...period.

It isn't that I was calling that BS I was calling out the coach which always over promises and never delivers. He has a team that hasn't even attended 1 Nationals and he wants to concider himself God of softball. He attracts weak minded parents like JOE and sells them on a come to bbat we have it all figured out and then he has moderate success and beats his chest without nothing but a cheap trophy at a weak tournament....

Weak-minded Joe hasn't yet felt the need to call out a team full of kids who would like to pursue their love of a game.

On the other hand...gLori's man crush on Coach Mark has many worried for his safety. The fact that DD didn't make the cut doesn't mean you can continue to pursue the affections of the one you love. Mark is married with children and while I think he may let you sniff his jockstrap, he's apparently not interested in anything else you might have in mind.

The use of the word A$$HOLE is only appropriate on HB when there's plenty of evidence that the word adequately describes the subject matter...you! In this case, the HB staff members that control the edit button seem to very comfortable with the adjective and its target.

I'm going to side with d-bat. I agree that the Shockers weren't great and the postings are a little over zealous for a new org. I can't believe I'm going to say this either- I do see texasglori's point about non-knowing parents believing all the hype from some of the posters on VTD. .... BUT for dbat in particular....

- Haven't we all learned a lot over the past few years? I'm sure Mark has too.

- I like not having all the "eggs" in one (Shelton) basket. Not a slam to Kevin's team at all, but the college opportunities are being spread around by those managers working their tails off for their players.

- Gold nationals, or placing high at gold nationals, is no longer a prerequisite. That obviously helps, but look at the success Jeff is having with Tulsa Elite, Slade with Fusion, Dan with his Glory teams, Bombers, Blaze, Sudden Impact, Peppers-Tanel, etc. There are quality players on these teams that are capable of high level DI play.

- Last but certainly not least, what better way to get instant contact and recognition than to be affiliated with a top notch baseball program. Introductions should be super easy as the baseball coach at ABC State walks over to the softball offices and says, "Hey, you need to talk to these guys. This is where I found SuperStud Johnson".

While I would love to defend the Tigers with the same argument, I can't. I don't feel they came close to choosing the right coaches or have the dedicated resources. Maybe I'll eat my words later on that, we'll see.

What I respect about Mark is his passion. He wants to know more, do more, and change more. And before the snide comments arrive, my DD is not on a dbat team and I haven't had a 10 minute conversation with Mark in almost 3 years.

Will I look back on this post in a few years and be completely off base? Maybe. Hopefully, we'll look back and see his players committed to college.

Of course I say that about the Tigers and then Stacey Segal is announced as the 18G coach and leading the club. Never mind...

Curious about those Tigers, blindsided a bit, baseball side is solid, we'll see. Seem to be pretty well stocked up with female former college coaches. Remains to be seen if they know what they are doing or not

After being away for a few days I return to what appears to me a completely unwarranted bashing on Dbat. My daughter plays 12U and is not affiliated with Dbat whatsoever.

I have to say that it appears that all you haters out there probably did not progresss past high school athletics because your ignorance here is evident.

Recruiting Bottom line, if your a great player the coaches will find you. There are no secrets in softball.

Dan Adkins

The statement above is 100% accurate. Playing for a name program will NOT get the superstar the scholarship because that would happen no matter who they play for but what it does do is allow for the 2nd tier players to get a look as opposed to them having to send out vidoes to a DII or DIII school and really work to get that scholarship.

I was fortunate enough to play 4-year college ball and I received my first recruiting letter as a sophomore which by today's timeline would mean class of 2012 and I was not a superstar. It is completely believable that a 2012 would commit. Keep in mind that a LOI is not signed until their senior year so it's just a verbal committment and either party may change their mind.

The greater issue here is too parents out there think that they know the game and recruting process and speak out pure ignorance.
