A couple of questions and comments on the ASA/PGF debate:

Why follow California teams and do what they are doing. Very few Texas girls are going to school in the west, and the girls that do rarely play. Dont fool yourself, Major DI in the west and just about everywhere else are pulling from California first.

PGF - Impact should get an invitation, they got 2nd last year. But most other teams did not get even close. You should have to play to get in....

ASA - Dont care what California says (or Spazdad, he just like to argue), its still the national Championship. Ever organization has problems. EVEN PGF...

What is very evident is that there is a huge Cali bias from the Cali crowd. As well there should be, that is where the best softball is played. Not because it is Cali, but because there are 12 million people crowded into an area the size of Rhode Island. There are a lot of good ball players in that 12 million. Not to mention the weather, SB year round adds to the quality. All of that is good, but it does not mean that when Cali wants to do something the rest of the world has to goose step right behind them. Premier was a great idea that may or may not be a great thing in the future, but right now ASA is still #1, granted it is not what it was before Premier, a monopoly. So if Premier never takes over the #1 spot I have to give it credit for making ASA think a little bit about how to please the people that matter, the girls, not Bucket Heads with false senses of self worth. If Premier does take over the #1 spot, and maybe it will, just from reading all of the previous posts then I fully predict that sometime in the future there will be the exact same discussions with PGF inserted into all of the spaces that currently say ASA. No entity is always right, no organization pleases everyone.

Right now ASA is #1 and trying to stay that way, Premier has a lot of the best teams, no argument there. It has only been in existance for 2 years, keep those best teams for several more years and attract the rest of the best teams and then lets have the discussion. Until then If PGF wants to be the best it has to try to do what ASA did not do for many years, make the decisions based upon what is best for all the SB community. Right now it is saying we are Southern California, We are the best so you need to do what we say. SOCAL is beautiful, some call it Paradise, but what did the Eagles say, "You call someplace Paradise, you kiss it goodbye."

All of the bodies of softball have what they call a national championship. For those playing in the tournament, it is a national championship. Right now, as of this year, PGF is a National Championship (with a little bit of Invitational mixed in). This year as next year, it will be a National Championship for those playing in it.

I highly doubt teams that win ASA Gold and on down will go home and say 'We won Nationals but it wasn't the real one'. The same with PGF. To each his/her own. And right now, there is room for 2.

As far as location/weather, we play tournaments/games in Texas from freezing to hell. Suck it up buttercups.

For the sake of argument why is that true?
Because it has been around longer? Yes. That does have something to do with it like it or not.
Because it is not held on the West Coast? Yes. PGF is West Coast based. ASA is not “anything” based. That is what makes it a true National. When a National is set to cater to a particular region (Cali in particular), it cannot be considered a true USA National. I can't blame you guys for trying but that is all it is right now-”Trying” not “Established”.
Because some teams from other parts of the country choose to attend ASA over PGF? No. Personally speaking, I don't feel that has anything to do with it.

I like the travelling and seeing other parts of the country. Some good, some not so good but all part of the experience.

Excellent view. That is a great universal statement no matter what sanction you support.

It would be nice to see PGF / ASA host the following year Nationals in the city or near the city that the previous year winner came from. That way the discussion of being bias due to location could be moot.

ASA's so-called "National" is justed as flawed, because it ain't a true "National" when the competition doesn't show up. They'll be huddling around HB that week...
