Without you guys the bucket wouldn't be where it is today.

Sad - but true in regards to both your points. :(

Both of you, when you do not want to respond to a question, either divert the atention to something else or simply say that it does not fit the critera for the orginal post. Sounds to me like you two are either the same people or drink a lot together or something else maybe. Anyway, the Op was covered, in my opinion that you play to win, regardless of the type tournment , "showcase" that you are involved in. 1 pitch or 1 at bats will not determine if a scholarship is given or not. It is the whole package over a period of time that determines that. Once again I hope you 2 are brite enough to understand that. If not sorry and lets move on.

Just wondering...Would you really count it as a win?

Brilliant Slap- let's not pay any attention to two contributors who might actually know something!

College Coaches go to Showcases for the following:

1) Check out prospects that have contacted them and have expressed an interest in their school.
2) Observe the play on their previously committed players who might be there
3) Possibly observe a player not on their "list"

What they generally do not do

1) Rarely watch a whole game- they generally move from field t field to maximize their observations
2) They do not care who "wins"
3) They hate TB coaches that do not put in players they are look to observe- especially when they ask
4) Hate TB coaches that think it is they who are being scouted.

Showcase are to "showcase" players and talent- most do not have a championship- winning is getting your players into a school. An Intential walk at a National or another competitive tourney is great- they are useless at a showcase.

Clearly there are 2 sides to this issue. Donnie and Spaz shouln't discount some valid reasons for wanting to "win" a meaningless showcase game (need win to keep getting good fields, pitcher/team is counting this toward wins/era, sheer desire to win, etc.).

And to the point of scouts NOT wanting to see a pitcher "chicken out", we don't know the full situation. What if this was Little Susie of the TX Newbies pitching against a good BB or FC team, and has shut them down impressively for 5 innings, and needs to walk the last kid for an impressive (yet meaningless) "win" against a quality opponent? Why risk possibly screwing up this perfect scenario? At this point, she might only hurt her chances in front of scouts after pitching so masterfully till that point.

Not gonna argue that many people (including scouts) might like to see her challenge herself to finish it off "the right way". Plus, the batter is here at a showcase and the intentional walk is depriving her of a chance to impress. Clearly 2 sides to this issue.

BUT ... how about trying to avoid this scenario by instructing the umpires NOT to call out "last batter"??? That's what made this an issue.

One of the issues that I have seen is that many parents (and some coaches) do not reaaly understand what a "Showcase" is. Many coaches also falsly assume that most parents do. It leads to a lot of confusion.

Case in point

Was at the Devens Showcase(Deven, MA) All games were "drop dead" Games would just end when the Umps timer alarm went off. Parents would start yelling at the ups, arguing among each other etc... Not realizing that the time limit was in place to maximize the number of games and exposure and since there was no championship- the outcomes did not matter

I have seen TB coaches refuse to put in players that a college coach requested to see play.

I have seen parents flip out when a coach put in a player a coach requested (even though he or his Susy did not have a college coach watching them-since they did not bother to contact any)
