D-Bat Impressive showing??? (Sorry for the long read)

by 1OPNEON » Tue Oct 27, 2009 9:57 am

A coach can make one thousands xcuses as to why they didn't win the game, but bottom line they didn't. To me the issue here is not why this coach was upset but what he told his pitcher to do...are you kidding me?? If this is really true, his guy needs to be kicked to the curve by this DBat organization.
It's my opinion....and that's all that matters!!

I hope the offending coach (re: telling F1 to hit the batter in the head) understands that after he gave that order, and assuming the pitcher executed and injured the batter, the coach and batter are legally liable for any bodily injury to the batter. Insurance does not cover willful criminal acts, so the coach's insurance would not defend him or the pitcher.

And that's just civil court. There is also the question of criminal prosecution of the coach, and less so of the underaged pitcher. I know if my DD had been the batter, and a coach ordered to throw at her head, and the pitcher delivered and injured my DD, I would not stop at monetary relief. Assuming I had the discipline to avoid "an eye for an eye" situation and not run him over over in the parking lot, I would make every effort to enourage the DA to make sure that coach spent a good stretch of time in the pokey (or whatever they call jail in TX).

I have spoken to our coach and discussed the situation. As always, there are some facts. They did not shake hands after the game, for which Lupe regrets very much. He did not order a pitcher to throw at anybody. He ordered her to throw strikes as time was running out.

ASA play allows you to burn timeouts each inning, and coaches can do this in order to kill time off the clock. Lupe was upset, becuase he felt an intentional stalling tactic was used. That does not excuse missing the post game hand shake, no matter what happened.

I assure you, that if this happens again, they will be shaking hands to congratulate the girls/coaches on a well deserved win no matter what. Lupe really regrets the decision to not shake hands, and feels that the players and coaches deserved to be congratulated on the win.

Congrats to Showtime for a great tournament, and my apoligies for the post-game actions of not shaking hands. I want to make it very clear, that nobody was being thrown at, and anything someone may have thought they heard in the heat of the battle was not accurate. We don't put the lives of 13-14 year old girls at risk like this.

So lets get the whole story out there showtimedad00

1. Beginning of the game: Showtime Coach would not shake D-Bat coach's hand before the coin flip.

2. Last batter in the batter's warmup circle unlacing (yes i said unlacing her cleats). This was called to the attention of the umpire. So there's 2 outs and unlaced player stepping to the batter's box (throw's her Farm batting gloves toward the dugout and bends down to lace and tie her shoe. Then has to go and get her gloves.) Then first base coach calls time to go talk to batter. Umpire calls ballgame with time still on the clock.

I guess they were afraid D-Bat was going to come back and get them even if the score was 5-0. Have any other teams ever scored more than 5 runs in an inning - I think so.

The coach never told the pitcher to take out the batter. The only thing the coach said was "bring it" and "I want it" meaning strikes cause she was struggling. F1 was never crying. It is amazing how things get blown out of proportion.

D-Bat coach apologized to his players and told them that this will never happen again. He should have let them shake their hands, but what's done is done. Can't change it now. I don't think there's a coach out there that doesn't have a situation that they would have done differently.

AND JW, how many tournaments have you been thrown out of acting like an idiot coach????

I am not trying to hide who I am, as I said from my screen name aka Pokeys Dad aka Todd Wells!!! There are other reasons for not wanting to play another inning. There is the fact to get the girls as much rest as they can before the next game, playing another inning and risking injury, and yes it was possible to score 6 more runs and win the game, highly doubtful but possible. Like I said there is not one coach who would not eat the last 60 seconds of the game! If they did not they would not be doing their job! I personally did not hear the " take her head off" but all I know is our 1st base coach heard it, the TD heard and a lady who had stopped to eat some food had heard it! Thats 3 different sources hearing the same thing! I was just as shocked as anyone, I went to school with Lupes brother my whole life and have met him a few times and he has seemed like a nice enough guy.

I am glad he apologized to his girls, but I think he owes our girls a apology. By the way I work right across from DBAT on Wright Bros if Mark or Lupe would like to talk about this.

1. Beginning of the game: Showtime Coach would not shake D-Bat coach's hand before the coin flip. (Not true coin flip was done and good lucks were given to each other no handshakes were attempted by either coach)

2. Last batter in the batter's warmup circle unlacing (yes i said unlacing her cleats). This was called to the attention of the umpire. Umpire calls ballgame with time still on the clock.yes they were unlaced i did notice that but I also notice the ump explain to you that she came out of the dugout like that,1st base only called time after the first pitch "buzzed the tower" and ump also noticed this and called game with 15 seconds remaining

I guess they were afraid D-Bat was going to come back and get them even if the score was 5-0. Have any other teams ever scored more than 5 runs in an inning - I think so. Well they way the girl with the long hair was 1 hitting your team I give advantage to the Showtime team

It is amazing how things get blown out of proportion. Now here I call BS if what she did was not crying then we need to revisit your eye doctor (my son was taking video on his cell phone hopefully he got this I will ask him when I pick him up from school

I don't think there's a coach out there that doesn't have a situation that they would have done differently.Well if you are a parent you should be ashamed if my DD was playing on your team I would MAKE her go to 1st base and shake their hands even if the coach said no becasue he was sour cause another team used tatics he would use if he was on the other end of the situation

AND JW, how many tournaments have you been thrown out of acting like an idiot coach????
this last quote you lost me????

Big Big respect to Mark Mulvany and addressing this situation. I know the High End of D-Bat baseball already is aware of this and knowing one of the big 4 personally I will let him know that Mark has addressed this first hand

Yeah Big Respect Dude! Way to go and stink it up in a freakin B tournament and then show bad sportsmanship. Great staff you have there. I guess I would be ill too if I went out to a B tourney and finished behind 2 97 teams
