This is why you have all of these showcase tournaments.
Wrong. Do you know what a watch list is and how it is compiled and used? Do you not routinely see D1 coaches at exposure tournaments watching games between far from elite teams? Do you not see D1 coaches at remote locations watching non-elite teams? Do coaches limit their searches only to kids on elite teams? Nope. One reason a coach may go watch one stud kid is that that particular kid has expressed interest in a particular school and the coach feels like the kid is worth looking at. That kid may be the currently uncommitted one the coach feels is a good fit for their needs and is the kid the coach makes an actual scholarship offer to. And since the vast majority of coaches have no shot at landing a Cat-type player and the irrefutable info above, the obvious conclusion is that in fact kids do get "solo looks" by college coaches. And BTW, as for efficiency and lack of time, 1 head coach and 2 asst coaches at a 3 or 4 day exposure tournament have how many hours between them to look at players?
I saw all this play out 3 or 4 years ago when my kid played for an 18G team that wasn't even "elite" enough to qualify for Nationals. At different times, that team was watched by coaches from the Big-10, PAC-10, SEC, etc.
