Watched Sweeet Gold (97 Team) send 12U's home, placed 5th in the tournament (5w-2l). Impressive...I don't know how many Central and South TX teams are playing 12U in the Spring but check them out on the VTD...last fall they placed in two 12U, and rather than bag the 10U division they continue with 12U play in the Spring. WOW. They are the best team in the state even though they placed 3rd in the Bomber tournament.

It's obvious they look to play the top competition (with only 9 players, no bench riders). :D

So why do they list themselves as a 10U "B" team? At this level of play at least list yourself as "A".

Also, playing and placing in a 12U "B" tournament does not put you against the best 12U teams!! The best 12U's are playing up.

"They are the best team in the state even though they placed 3rd in the Bomber tournament."

They also were shut out twice by Austin's Finest at 10U this winter. An no one is mistaking the Finest for any type of a powerhouse. They rely on one pitcher to throw it past everyone. That will work the first time through the lineup with good teams. I watched the TPS game at the Bomber Shootout and they strung together a few hits the second time through and then a girl about 4' tall took her deep and walked around the bases for a walk off shot.

I wouldn't crown them the best of anything yet, you need more than one dominant pitcher. Glory, Elite, Gold and TPS are the best four. With the Redhots a close 5th.

Those are all good statements but I spoke with that pitchers dad after that game, the pitcher had a bad leg from the game before and was trying to gut it out. That was a great hit that girl had, won't take anything from that.

Watched Sweeet pounch on Glory this weekend in Allen 9-1....they beat Elite 2-0, in a good game.

...Not crowning them, however, they have been hitting the cover of the ball in the first couple of tournaments they played this spring in 12U....unlike what they showed in that Bomber tournament.

As for shut out twice by Austin's Finest in the Fall, that is a fact but AF didn't have the same girls on Friday, Saturday or Sunday...I found that interesting. Different team at the Bomber....I've heard that's common though.

TPS had 4 girls with the flu including their #1, and #2 pitchers. Their pool game pitcher pitched the 3rd place game and the championship - her first bracket games of her life and shut down Gold after first couple of innings.

Gold is good, but the field is pretty level at the top 3 or 4 in the state.

Yes, #1 pitcher was hurt, hence the problem of relying on one pitcher like daddyball said. TPS has 3 or 4 solid pitchers. Trust me, we have seen them all and have never beaten any of them.

In the case of TPS, that is truly impressive. I think the teams will meet in a few weeks in Houston so that will give us all a better view. I appreciate the insight as I was not aware that they were missing players...kinda changes things.

Was at Bomber Shootout and saw Elite and Gold play, they are both very good. I'll agree with the above that Gold rely on the big pitcher - which could be a long term problem. I also saw TPS/Gold game and can tell you both are talented well coached teams. TPS is not very big, but they can put the bat on the ball and run like the wind. TPS's catcher threw out both attempted basestealers in that game. If that was in fact, TPS's #3 pitcher, she looked pretty good. Tournament in houston in May will be telling.

I was at the bomber tournament and Elite, Gold and TPS are well coached teams. They both not only rely on their pitching but also on their defenses. I think the 10U teams at this level, including Gold, Elite, TPS, Crossfire, and the red hots, all have very good defenses behind their pitching staffs. Gold has hit the ball very hard in their last few 12U tournaments. They were liking this trait at the Bomber Tournament. l feel like the May tournament will be a good test. I also feel like there will be an adjustment period back from 12U to 10U. Gold and Elite may struggle for a few weeks. Only time will tell.

Adjusting back from 12U to 10U could be a problem for hitting as the distance change of the pitching is hard to adjust back to. Gold, Elite and Glory were all good solid teams that gave the Houston teams good games all the way through at the Bombers tournament. TPS, Redhots and Crossfire all seem to be capable of beating each other from one day to the next as well. Looking forward to seeing the results of the May 3-4 tournament.
