Marshall USFA tournament

by lpoolone » Thu Jun 24, 2010 8:24 am

1 tournament may not always be indicative of how things are normally run but if this is the norm for any tournament in Marshall, I would tell of you to stay away even if it was a free tournament. This post is in regards to their recent Midnight Madness tournament.

1) There were day games for local teams while those that travelled had to play all night.

2) No water in the dugouts at all despite 100+ degree temps.

3) Field was never raked nor was watered.

4) Garbage piled up for a full day before it was changed. Some cans could have been filled 3x with what was accumulating on the ground.

5) There was a home run derby and pajama races poster board up but no one knew where it was taking place. Some kids got to participate, others were unable to.

6) Local team called timeout with under 5 minutes to play while they were hitting and up by 2 runs. The clock did not stop on either occasion despite the opposing coaching staff (not our team) telling the umps to stop the clock. Their reply was, "we only stop the clock under 5 minutes if it appears that they are stalling". Huh?

**Disclaimer** We were in this tournamnet but nothing I am mentioning affected how we fared.

Maybe it wasn't the best run tournament, and no Marshall doesn't have a multi-million dollar softball complex. But the girls have always enjoyed Midnight Madness, and thats what its all about. Every tournament has its pros and cons, but if the players have fun, what more could you ask for? This was our third year to participate, and we'll most likely make it a 4th in '11.
