San Antonio Gold Regional

by IDigress » Mon Jun 28, 2010 12:38 pm

Congrats to Impact Piro, Peppers Gold and Rapid Fire for qualifying for Gold Nationals this past weekend in San Antonio.

A side note: the ASA organizers and field maintenance crew at Koger-Stokely fields should be forced to either cleanly field 100 ground balls or lose all their teeth trying on those infields, whichever comes first. Horrible!

Completed bracket at: http://www.eteamz.com/sapar/files/Regio ... ackets.xls

Thr infield was the same at the Kennedy fields. I have never seen so many wild hops on grounders. There was no telling where the bounce would bounce.

welcome to san antonio softball. same condtions as last year again but this time only got 3 berths and not 6 thanks to Texas ASA splitting te berths up and making teams spend more money on travel and hotels to go to Beaumont. Look forward to playing in those sandpits. Just like playing sand volleyball.

I don't remember it being as bad last year, but we didn't play our 1st game last year until after the torrential downpour that delayed the tournament last year (at least at Koger). Think that sort of softened the field.

As far as Beaumont, they did some extensive modifications last summer to the College St fields where the tournament will be played. Covered the stands for shade and also reworked most of the infields. Haven't played there yet to tell if it made a difference. But continued field maintenance is the key, something SA dropped the ball on. Probably spent more time after the tournament raking the teeth up out of the sand than they spent maintaining the field during the tournament.
