Why does VTD not have a pickup rule?

by BallFirst » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:35 am

At a VTD tournament this weekend where there were at least 2 teams that had 4 to 5 pickups on their roster(s). Some teams don't even have 9 girls on their team period.
Just does not seem right! ASA only allows 3. VTD you need to fix that!

If it's not championship play; Who cares? Just go play.

Exactly. At this time of year, with Volleyball, cross country and everything else, teams have a hard time feilding a complete roster.

Let the girls get together and play. It helps everyone get better... ;)

Other teams with full rosters could not get in the tournament. And you have teams with 5 players and 5 pickups allowed to play. That is not right.

Teams with full rosters have from the time the tournament is posted until the time the TD locks it down to register and pay just like everyone else. Those teams should send in their checks once they sign up.

So what you're saying though is that if those teams rostered 6 or 7 (instead of 5) and only picked up 3 (instead of 5)-that would be ok?

Just for my own curiosity, I'd love to know which 2 teams only have 5 players on their roster. To me, that takes guts to pay for a tournament with half a team. Especially on a busy softball weekend during VB season.

How do you know they didn't. They may have been lower on the list. Most Good Teams in DFW will not sign up for a Tournament unless they know it will make or will want to make sure it is not a Tournament with weaker teams.

Obviously I don't know. I have no idea what tournament we're even talking about. If a team is waiting around to see who is going to play, they are rolling the dice.

Also most good teams in DFW actually play friendlies with the other good teams. If they are playing in a tournament, all others will follow. The trend is teams following the good teams, not the other way around.

And what about:

Uuuuhhh no, most teams wait to sign up until they get a handle on the VB schedule, UIL band competition schedule, HS football schedule, Cheerleading concession stand schedule, and any number of about 1 million other fall diversions,....at which time they pick up players to cobble together a roster so the kids who want to play (or can play) are able to. I fail to see the issue........Let them play, why does it matter how many pick ups they have? it ain't nationals.
