Just when J.D. had a chance to save his Diamond Elite Showcase, he moves it up a weekend to go head-to-head with the NFCA Impact Gold/Louisville Slugger Showacase in Houston and the California showcases. What was he thinking? Am I the only one who thinks it makes sense not to split teams and college coaches in the region among three major showcases that weekend? There is a reason NFCA left the Elite Showcase and partnered with Impact Gold/Louisville Slugger.
If J.D. stuck with July 21-24, he had zero competition that weekend. And how many teams who play ASA Gold participate in the Elite Showcase anyway? Also, despite losing its NFCA sponsorship, the Elite event has a chance to remain a regional destination of choice for all 16u and 18u Premier Qualified teams and all 16u teams qualified for ASA Nationals, who wouldn't travel for another week on July 31-Aug. 6. No way teams or college coaches were consulted on this decision.
