2010-11 Texas Girls Coaches Association Softball Poll
Pre-Season Top Ten
January 26, 2011
Class 1A
1. Grapeland
2. Malakoff Cross Roads
3. Mart
4. Saltillo
5. Blue Ridge
6. Sam Rayburn Ivanhoe
7. Santa Gertrudis Academy
8. Petrolia
9. Alto
10. Slocum
Comments: Tough at the top as graduation losses hit but pitching appears improved across the board. Blue Ridge will strive to return to the elite while Grapeland and Cross Roads are early favorites.
Class 2A
1. George West
2. Brock
3. Early
4. Harleton
5. Grand Saline
6. Hallettsville
7. Alpine
8. Danbury
9. McGregor
10. Rogers
Comments: Maggie Ham of George West and Linsey Hays of Brock are both back and the rest of the elite 2A teams are on their heels. Grand Saline has a transfer while Hallettsville lost a heart breaker to George West and is anxious for the return event. Remember, Ham had 31 strikeouts in two games at state, had the game winning RBI in the semifinals then had four hits and scored the winning run in the finals. The Longhorns only have two seniors and Ham is back. Brock is the 2009 champion, 2010 runner-up up and has the battery of Linsey Hays and Cheyenne DeLaGarza back.
Class 3A
1. Princeton
2. Celina
3. Liberty Hill
4.. Splendora
5. North Forney
6. Bandera
7. Paris North Lamar
8. West
9. Lindale
10. Giddings
Comments: Lots of bats in 3A. Princeton is loaded with strong pitching while Celina should be very, very good. Kourtney Bevers is back on the hill for Liberty Hill while Bandera and Splendora are talent rich. North Forney should be very good which will surprise no one who sees them.
Class 4A
1. Brenham
2. Elgin
3. Corpus Christi Moody
4. Montgomery
5. Royce City
6. Sherman
7. Rockwall
8. Hallsville
9. Cedar Park Vista Ridge
10. New Braunfels Canyon
Comments: Brenham looks to be back as transfers in will bolster the powerful Cubettes attack. Elgin and Royce City are peaking this season while Moody should be good as will Sherman, Hallsville and a talent hitting team at Vista Ridge.
Class 5A
1. Pearland
2. Tomball
3. Lewisville Hebron
4. Plano West
5. Round Rock Stony Point
6. Katy Taylor
7. The Woodlands
8. Austin Bowie
9. Keller
10. Midland Lee
Comments: Pearland’s Lady Oilers are loaded again and 5A is going to be wide open as Houston and the Metroplex are solid while Central Texas, including both Austin and San Antonio, look balanced. El Paso and West Texas have some teams on the edge of Top Ten while the Coast and Valley has several top notch squads.
