TPS99- Great Bunch of scrappy little DD’s. Stay together and you’ll be a Strong 2nd year 12U Team
Storm Elite98- Lots of bad breaks for this team. It will come together have faith. Team looks stronger.
TxAces98 – Average at best need work in all areas
Mizuno98- Strong finishes in the Fall rough start in the Spring. Tighten it up JC.
Legends98- This team first showing looked like a Rabid Pit Bull with SARS Virus. Mowed down all competition. They have their sights set on the TPS98, PPanthers98 and Force98. Keep a watchful eye for this team. Will be contenders.
Smash98 AKA: Teampickup98 – Not only does this team pickup players it’s my understanding they hand picked a thoro bred. This DD’s hit one so far they had to phone a friend to find it. Congratulations on the HOME RUN. Still weak and in a lot of areas.
TxHeat99- Strong little 99 team has upset some 98 teams. I look forward to watching the DD’s grow as a team.
Houston Power98 – Roster appears smaller, stronger sticks, Defense needs work. Head Coach? Did she quit? Sure hope not things have turned around for this team since the fall.
TxRage98 – Looked better than last Tourney. Still struggling with the sticks but came up with some key hits to take 2nd Congrats.
Peppers98 – Looked beat up and wore out. Struggled in this tournament but fans are saying there will be a strong finish.
Austin’s Finest- Average appeared to struggle in all areas.
TPS98- Hosted the Tournament but all their DD’s still played but on 12 different teams. Which upset a lot of Coaches and Parents? So my question: Should you be allowed to Pickup Players for tournaments? I know the Smash98’s answer but would like to get some feedback on this?
Force98- Strong Finish in the fall but nowhere to be found in the Spring! Is the team in trouble? Is there Coaching issues? When will this team surface Again?
PPanthers98- is too missing in action. Why?

In reply about pick up players. I believe it should be allowed if certain guidelines are followed.
1) If a team entered a tournment then close to the tournment date, some of the teams players could not make it and it dropped them to 9 or below on roster.

2) Their team players should not sit so pick ups could play more than 1 inning a game.

3) Do not use pick up Pitchers unless there is 1 to none Pitchers on the team.

In other words when possible let your players win or lose ball games.

Just some of my thoughts. I am sure there are alot more.

Thanks for the comments on our tourney. As for you team evaluations you seem to have put some good thought into your analysis.

I would like to point out a couple of things. We had 3 of our players fill in...all on different teams. My daughter was going to be the original fill-in on Smash, but did not want to risk injury playing for another team. Not sure where you got the hand-picked info. One played on our TPS 99 team and one played for the Aces Express. Only the Smash placed in the top five (tied for 5th). This is was an early tourney where teams had players involved with school sports and illness (I know the Smash had one player who was ill). I don't think one TPS 98 player per team made that big of a difference since none of those teams placed in the top 3, and one was called average in your analysis.

And since we do not have 12 players I am not sure how you saw us on 12 different teams. Might want to have that vision checked!

I agree. I hate to see a bunch of regulars on the bench and pickups in the field. One or two too help out because of injuries is ok otherwise the team does not play at all, but if you can't win with your regulars, then get them to the level so that you can win. My daughter is a pitcher. Her position is critical. We play pick up alot because alot of teams cannot find a pitcher. Alot of girls are not willing to put in the time to be a good pitcher. It is understandable. Pitchers are unique, because to be good, you must practice almost daily.

Now about Austin's Finest, they are an average team all the way around. Their number one pitcher is good with excellent movement and control, but she is slow. The rest of team is just average including the coach. Will be interesting to see if they can compete in Austin area tournaments, so don't evaulate Austin teams by looking at the Finest. Look at the Stix98, Austin Storm and Austin Blaze98, if you want to evaluate Austin teams. They will dominate Austin...

There is nothing worse than a pickup playing while a regular dues paying player sits if not necessary. Pickup players will always be a part of travel softball, and can be very helpful to teams and players, but proper ethics should prevail.

For the record, my daughter does not play on any of those teams mentioned. I wish she was at the level of play that she could play for them. Hope that answers your question
