My DD has very little speed but really wants to get faster. Too bad I have no earthly clue on how to help her shave her time. Can anyone help? :)

Sprints and more Sprints. Short distances (90 feet at most). You can also run the short sprints with a parachute. :D

If she is well into puberty(14-16) she can start lifting weights will her legs, keep the weight low and repetitions high so that she tones up, too much weight will make her tight and prone to injury.

If she has not begun puberty NO Weight Lifting period, just stretching and running. I cannot emphasize enough that she must stretch very well first, as longer, stronger muscles are generally faster.

Hope you don't mind a Hoosier crashing the Texas board.

A trainer once told me that the best way (he did use that word) to increase running speed is to do lunges.

I believe this runs contrary to modern science on the subject...i.e., that stretching before competition actually diminishes performance. So dynamic exercise to warm-up and prepare to play...then stretching afterwards while cooling down.

But I'm no expert...that's just what I've read.
There is no charge for awesomeness

Is she on the school's track team? Have her enlist the help of a track coach. Sprint training has to be done year round.
