New for 2014... ASA 16Gold Nationals!!

by TulsaEliteGold » Wed Dec 11, 2013 12:14 pm

New for the 2014 season: ASA 16U GOLD Division!
ASA 16Gold Nationals - July 21-26 - Broken Arrow, OK

Passed at the 2013 ASA/USA Softball National Council Meeting, the 16U GOLD National Championship will feature 48 of the top 16-Under teams from across the country! Details are still developing, so be sure to check back to find out how/where to qualify and much more!

ASA 16Gold Info: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Softball/Pla ... s/16U-GOLD

Qualifiers: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Softball/Pla ... on/Qualify

Qualifying for 16Gold Nationals is going to be similar to Qualifying for 18Gold Nationals. There are (48) total berths; (12) per Territory; each Territory will host (2) qualifiers TBA allotting (6) berths per qualifier. There are no Regional Qualifiers or State Qualifiers for 16Gold.

I was told one of the Southern Territory Qualifiers will probably be in Baton Rouge LA and the other will be somewhere in the Southeast U.S., maybe Georgia/Alabama area.

Not sure if its going to be like 18Gold, where once you classify as 16Gold, you are locked for that season and cannot play 16A if you do not qualify for 16Gold.

Broken Arrow? That's about 120 miles from OKC. I thought the idea was to put it near 18G...

The 16G berths are being distributed evenly this year (i.e. 12 per territory). Each territory will get either 16 or 8 berths in future years based on the prior year's participation.

The other change ASA made is the Gold TQTs are now national qualifiers, meaning they are open to all teams regardless of how many teams from the territory enter.

Our SoCal rep said a 16A team that fails to qualify for 16G will be able to play 16A. If they qualify for 16G, they can't drop back down to 16A. I don't see it in the Code changes, but it's reasonable to expect it will be the same as 18A/18G.

Going head to head with 16U PGF will guarantee it won't be 48 of the top 16U teams in the country. It may be less of a joke than it has been the past few years, but let's be honest here. The nation's top teams will be in the same place they were last year.

At least they got the qualification process right. No more metros
