Rule about Tryouts??

by cleanuphitter » Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:55 pm

Is there really an ASA Rule regarding hosting tryouts two weeks after nationals? If so, what is the ASA Code #? I looked for it but didn't find it.

The reason I am asking is because my daughter is scheduled for a private tryout before the two weeks. I know of someone else that has already been to a private tryout for the same team and has already been offered a spot and has accepted. The girls are friends and obviously want to be on the same team but I also don't want to jeopadize her eligibility. The team does specify that they are planning to play ASA.

Please help!

It's a Houston Metro rule not ASA, the intent is to try and give the girls a break. If I remember correctly any team volating the rule would not be allowed into championship play. That was the statement made on eteamz last august.

It is a Houston rule, not just Metro but some (if not all) of the surrounding districts as well. This is why many 14u and 16u teams are hosting tryouts exactly 2 weeks (this coming Sunday) after Nats, I haven't seen too many tryouts for Gold teams yet so that would seem consistent. To answer your question though regarding the private tryout, no one could ever prove that it happened so it's nothing to worry about for your DD. Good Luck!
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

Sounds like you already know the answer to your question. A private try out may never be found out about, but sounds like illegal, therefore what is next for this team? I would be a little leary. Sounds minor right now, but following the rules means follow the rules.
