"Gold", "National"

by Lone Staarr » Wed Aug 31, 2016 12:27 pm

Just saw a team name with (insert team name) "Gold National" team.

So where does it end? Futures, RWB, Black, Platinum, etc., etc

Do parents fall for this?

If your team qualifies and plays against other qualified Gold teams in a true National Tournament then I am okay with a team adding Gold to their name. ASA or PGF have qualifiers. I am okay with a 14U/16U adding Futures to their names as it indicates they are the up and comers. Most teams just put the coaches name at the end to indicate who they are, but others put Black, white, red, etc to as another indicator as the coaches will change year to year but the team name remains. And yes other call themselves the National team. I have seen that with several teams as they actually travel a lot and don't play a whole lot of local events. Impact Gold, Bombers, Intensity, Blaze are just a few that comes to mind.

...And O Socks,

Do you think parents fall for the "Gold", "National" naming on it depicting a great, solid team with an experienced coach?

Do they take the bait orange?

Parents take the name and drink the kool-aid that is being sold of a team name over a great coach. See it time and time again..

Right! On top of the "Gold National" team comes "John Doe" as well!
