by hit4power » Sun Oct 11, 2009 5:20 pm

Does anyone have any info on the player (3B) who was hit in the head by a line drive this morning (sunday) at the Beaumont tourney? I am praying she is OK....

She was released from the hospital and is at home. I talked to her father and she has a broken nose, two small fractures around her eye and swelling. Her vison is back and will be going to the optometrist tomorrow.

I'm glad that it sounds like she'll be OK. Sure makes me wish my kid would wear a mask. Feels way too much like Russian roulette.

Our team has to wear them at 3rd and pitch...do you think a 1st baseman should have to wear them too??

I am glad that she has been able to go home. I was standing right behind the 3B bleachers when it happened, but had my back to the field watching the action on the adjoining field. I didn't see it happen, but I heard it - that's how bad it was.

My DD plays 3B and P, and is just now playing 18G. I guess that's playing Russian roulette with two bullets in the gun. She has a mask, but has every excuse in the book not to wear it consistently. I'm going to have to man up on this....

My daughter plays 3B and when she first started this position, fought me on the mask. I simply told her that if she didnt wear the mask, she didnt play. I wish more parents would make their child wear the mask. I am glad that the girl is alright.... I know her parents must have been very scared.....

i think if the team plays the first baseman in close like they do at third, yes, they should be made to wear them. if a team has a pitcher throwing 55 or better, lots of right handed hitters hit the ball the opposite way and the first baseman is in danger... what can it hurt??? we all know what can happen if they do not wear it..

On the bucket all of us have alot of fun joking, ribbing and carring on while still having a great amount of respect for the game and for our dd"s to play the game!!

Injuries to the face and head of fielders could be almost eliminated if the dd"s at 1st and 3rd and pitcher were made to wear face protection. This last very serious incident is a prime examble of the need for that protection.

You hear parents say my dd will not wear one it is too uncomfortable. Well parents look at what can what. You have to step up like some parents do and tell the dd "WEAR IT OR DON'T PLAY". My dd has worn one since she was 6 and would not step on the field without it.

WE AS PARENTS SHOULD PETITION THE MAJOR SOFTBALL AND LOCAL SOFTBALL ORGANIZATIONS TO ADOPT RULES TO MAKE IT MANITORY FOR THE 1ST 3RD AND PITCHER POSITIONS TO WEAR FACE PROTECTION. We have it on batting helmets. WOULD YOU HAVE A CATCHER NOT WEAR PROTECTION?

Please Please parents FOR your daughters safety and protection, MAKE HER WEAR FACE PROTECTION.
