Blu'e's feelings...

by 1OPNEON » Mon Oct 26, 2009 10:21 pm

Umpires need to grow a thicker skin if they are going to be calling select softball games! I am tired of umpires turning around and arguing with parents because they are yelling, or calling the coaches over to warn them about their parents. I know there are parents that can be completely obnoxious and just plain annoying, but since when can't umpires take the heat?? I always felt it was part of the game...??? :?
It's my opinion....and that's all that matters!!

This is a great subject. Blue's should not engage the audience, and should instead go to the coach about their respective fan's chatter. The quickest way to shut 'em up is to have the coach come over and look at DD's dad and say, "do you want a forfeit?".

Part of the game? I go to work this morning and hear a continous barrage of nasty comments from my customer??? Don't think so. I mean, I'm all about "the customer is always right"...to a point! Then it's shut the f*@k up and don't come back. I especially love the parent who's over by the dugout calling ball and strikes....crying about the strike zone. I mean..."child please!!!"

All I ask from an umpire is to be approachable and to know the rules. When I consistently coach a perfect game...then I'll expect the same from the blue. It'll never happen...

I agree with you 100% on the above, that is all that can be asked! What bothers me is to watch a coach calmly go ask a question or inquire about something and they right away shut them up and tell them to go back in the dugout... Many of the considered "best" umpires out there have really dissapointed me!

Anytime a coach calls time out and approaches me and I send him directly back to his dugout, one of the following has taken place.

1. He comes running out all emotional and making accusations.

2. He has no idea of rules as they would pertain to the current call.

3. He doesn't ask me to ask for help on a particular point of the call and instead just wants to argue.

Each of those will usually result in a "Coach, you need to go back to your dugout and let's play ball"

Trixsie, I'm thankful you are not an umpire, because they tend to forget that behind that argumentative coach there are 9 players out there trying their best to play a good game. I don't believe in arguing every call, or questioning every situation! But umpires need to stop acting like they can't make any calling mistakes, many times coaches are trying to bring attention to situations...and many times coaches deserve the kick in the butt for being so annoying!!

It's not a coach/umpire power trip, it's a young girls softball game...you can't take it out on them to stick it to the coach???!!! Trix I wonder how many blues feel like you do??? Terrible!!!

What tick's me off is when you know you are getting HOME COOKING when you travel to certain areas. It is not an easy job, but they are getting paid to do a job! All I ask is be contestant with there strike zone and pay attention on the bags and know the rules. If they didn't get a good look at a play or not sure ask for help ! Its called doing your JOB !!!! :o

the original post was concerning unruly and obnoxious parents, not coaches. yeah, it would be great if all us parents could just sit there and yell and cuss at umps the whole game and they not hear it. so is that what you want. let me turn your argument around, dont you think your little snookums sees their mommy or daddy acting like a horses ass? do you think that embarrasses them. dont give me that crap about "taking it out on the girls", grow up and lead by example for your kid.
