Established in 1972, Mountain View – Los Altos Girls Softball (MVLAGS) is an ASA-sanctioned recreational league committed to giving girls ages 5 to 16 the opportunity to explore and enjoy the game of softball.

From its inception, MVLAGS has been offering a quality, softball-only program to girls living in or attending school in Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and surrounding areas. 100% volunteer-driven, MVLAGS is a non-profit organization that promotes athletics, community-building, and the development of the ‘whole girl’ through girls softball.

Through our spring recreational program, the MVLA Nova summer and fall travel ball programs and our Summer Stars developmental program, our league has produced many strong players since we were formed in 1972 (originally a local Bobby-Sox organization).

The Recreational Spring Softball Season

The MVLAGS recreational spring softball season runs from the beginning of March through late May. Last spring, we had 39 teams total, with twelve 6U teams, ten 8U teams, ten 10U teams, five 12U teams and two 14/16U teams!

New players, as well as coaches, are always welcome - no experience necessary! The younger division teams are all school-based, which means that girls play with their schoolmates. The older division teams are skill-based and balanced to promote fair competition. The oldest teams also play interleague games with neighboring ASA softball leagues. At all levels, players may choose one playing Buddy, subject to our Buddy Policy.

Summer Stars for Summer Fun

Summer Stars, MVLAGS newest program, had three divisions of teams playing this past summer. Girls try out for Summer Stars and are engaged in a summer-long program of skill building, healthy competition and interpersonal development. Each week teams are formed, reformed and blended for fun competition.

Competitive Travel Ball Opportunities

For girls in 8U and above looking to play at a more competitive level, we offer our MVLA Nova travel ball program. The Nova program offers both summer and fall seasons, consisting primarily of ASA B/C level tournament play. A new 14U 'A'-level travel team is holding tryouts in November.

To be eligible to participate in the MVLAGS Nova travel ball program in the summer, a player must have actively participated in the MVLAGS recreational league in the spring. Interested players and parents should check off the appropriate box during registration and/or email the MVLAGS Travel Ball Chair at any time before the early May tryouts.

MVLAGS fielded five Nova Travel teams this past summer and six Nova travel teams played in the fall. All five of our summer 2013 Nova teams did very well, with those that were age eligible (the two 10U teams, our 12U team and our 14U team) all qualifying for and attending the State or Western national tournaments in San Diego and Arizona, respectively.
