Northwood met Edison in the 2nd round of the Saddleback Valley Tournament. The Chargers Sammy Cordova didn't get much help from her defense but she allowed only 2 hits, striking out 7. With the exception of one pitch she kept Northwood off balance and kept Edison undefeated.
Northwood 0 0 0 0 0 1=1
Edison 1 0 2 0 0 x=3 Time limit reached after 5 1/2 innings.
Northwood got 2 runners on in the first courtesy of Edison errors but Cordova struck out the side. With 1 out in the home 1st Karly Wester beat out an IF hit and went to 2nd on the errant throw. She went to third on a dropped third strike and scored on Hickman's bloop single to RF. Both sides went out in order in the 2nd but Northwood threatened again in the 3rd. A walk and passed ball put a runner at 2nd but the Chargers turned a 5-3-5 double play. It was luck they did because Northwood put 2 more runners on base via an E-6 and a single up the middle but failed to score.
Edison also benefitted from a defensive lapse in the 3rd. Cordova reached on an error and Ali Wester ran for her and stole 2nd. After Karly Wester walked the sisters pulled off a double steal. Hickman then tripled over the right fielder's head to score them both. After that each side got 1 baserunner per inning but Northwood made it count with a booming HR to RF by Nicole Thomas in the 6th.
