Diamante Ranch (NV) @ Edison 3-21

I was told that the visitors from Reno were a nationally ranked team. If so the rankings are meaningless or they just had an exceptionally bad day. The speed of the game seemed to throw them off, they couldn't play defense (3 errors plus at least 2 other plays that should have been made and they didn't do much hitting even when Edison brought in a non-pitcher.

The game started fine for the Mustangs as they retired the 1st 2 batters but O'Connor's walk was followed by a wild pitch. Plaza hit a high pop-up between SS and LF and what should have been the 3rd out of the inning wound up a run-scoring double. In the 2nd the Chargers played small ball. Sherman led off with a bunt single and after a force out and stolen base Talataina singled to left. They had a good chance at the plate but a nice slide by pinch runner DeMarco eluded the tag. Ali Wester dropped a bunt and reached on an error by the 1st baseman while the run scored. She went to 3rd on sister Karley's IF hit and scored on a ground out.Sammy Cordova's day ended after 3 innings allowing only 1 walk and striking out 4.

Meanwhile Edison broke it open in their half of the 3rd. Plaza singled to left and Africano blooped one in. Feuerstein made it to 2nd and 2 runs scored when the 3rd baseman took her grounder and threw wild. Talataina then cleared the wall in dead center with a 2-run HR. This brought in a new pitcher but she fared no better. Ali Wester was beneficiary of a 3-base throwing error again by the 3rd-baseman and Karley Wester scored her with a triple down the RF line. She came in on a sac fly and it was 10-0.

I don't know if the 4th marked Karley Wester's pitching debut but it's the 1st time I've seen her. One thing you don't want to do with a 10 run lead is walk people so it was an ill omen when she walked the leadoff batter. The Mustangs then collected their 1st hit of the game and it looked like she might be in trouble but she used her quick hands to turn a hard comebacker into a 1-5-3 double play and Plaza followed by picking the runner off 2nd. The starting pitcher came back for the 4th but the Chargers weren't done scoring. This time it was fueled by pinch hitters coming off the bench. Tahti doubled and Baca tripled for 1 run and Feuerstein's sac fly brougt in another. The Mustangs did manage 2 singles with 2 outs in the 5th but didn't manage to score.
