Etiwanda @ Glendora 3-30

by oldNlazy » Sat Mar 31, 2012 10:46 am

On paper it was a mismatch and Etiwanda did outhit Glendora 9-4 but still it took some 7th inning heroics to get the job done.
Etiwanda 0 0 0 0 0 0 3=3
Glendora 0 0 0 0 0 0 0=0

Things looked promising for the Eagles in the 1st. Taukeiaho ripped a very long single off the CF fence and Gonzalez contributed a 2 out single of her own but they couldn't push the run across. Glendora also had a chance in the 1st with a walk and a single but also failed to score. Valenzuela and Wilson both singled in the Etiwanda 2nd with only 1 out but Taylor Langdon go a strikeout and ground out to get out of the inning. Glendora used 2 hits and a BB to load the bases with 0 outs in their half of the 2nd but Mo Wesley retired the next 3 hitters and the game remained scoreless. The Eagles again put 2 runners on in the 3rd as Taukeiaho singled and was safe at 2nd on a fielder's choice but they couldn't get the clutch hit. Etiwanda was very lucky in the 4th as the Glendora runner was called out at 2nd when she had clearly beat the throw and the batter was called out for hesitating when the ball was in the circle. It turned out an unconventional, inning-ending double play. The pitchers seemed to be getting stronger and there was nothing but a Spaulding infield hit in the 5th and 6th. I had to make it to the UCLA game so going extra innings didn't sit well with me. But Delaney Spaulding was going to the game too and she took care of things. With 2 outs in the 7th the top of the Eagles' lineup came through. Isbel singled to CF, Taukeiaho got her 3rd single of the day and Spaulding blasted one over the fence in right center for the game winner.
