Great Oak @ Temecula Valley 4-12

by oldNlazy » Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:20 pm

So far during conference play Great Oak has won when I've showed up and lost when I didn't. The pattern continued today but not without some excitement along the way.
Great Oak 0 0 1 1 1 0 3=6
Temecula Val 0 0 0 1 1 0 1=3
Dewey vs Cleary

Temecula Valley had the best early chances, a triple by Camello in the 1st and 2 walks and a single in the 2nd but it was the Wolfpack who got on the board first. With 2 outs in the 3rd Kessler doubled to CF and Mo Mercado ripped one over the left fielder's head for another double. The next inning they used speed to score again. Perstle singled and was pinch run for by Washazaki. She promptly stole 2nd and 3rd and came home on a bad throw by the catcher. Great Oak thought they had escaped a jam in the 4th when they turned a low liner into a double play but Chris blooped a single to RF to get the run home. Great Oak almost ran themselves out of the inning in the 5th. Kessler's single put runners at 1st and 3rd and they tried a double steal and had the lead runner cut down at the plate. THey walked M. Mercado intentionally but then couldn't find the strike zone on Tower and walked her on 4 pitches to load the bases. Gloady took 5 pitches before she forced in the run.

Fans came for a softball game but they went home remembering the Valley coach's antics. The Golden Bears used walk, 2 errors and a wild pitch to score a run and when McIntosh walked they had the bases loaded with 1 out. But upon appeal it was ruled that the coach had never rentered McIntosh and she was called out. The coach claimed (at the top of his lungs) that he had reentered her and the umpire had just neglected to write it down but out she remained and the rally was killed. The Wolfpack got some insurance in the 7th. A walk and a stolen base put a runner at 2nd and Tower's single to RF along with the fielder booting the ball got a run home. Cloady singled to right and an errant pickoff throw by the catcher got another run in and Cloady to 3rd. She scored from there and Great Oak had a 4 run lead. Temecula Valley tried to rally with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. A walk and a triple by McIntosh got a run in but that was as close as they'd get.
