After being rained out last week the tournament kicked off with a couple of interesting games.
Vista Murrieta 1 0 1 0 0 3=5-7-2
West Ranch 0 0 1 0 0 4=5-5-0
Ta'amilo vs Foster

The game started well for the Broncos as the West Ranch right fielder played Moranda's single into a triple and Sierra Romero got her home with a sac fly. In the 2nd Sydney Romero singled to RF and Keller was hit by a pitch but Foster struck out the next 3 hitters to escape damage. Vista extended their lead in the 3rd on Sierra Romero's solo HR. The Wildcats got one back in the 3rd on a BB, stolen base, E-2 and RBI-single by Sorenson.. The Wildcats batted 6 so 1 run was cheap enough. Sorenson doubled in the 5th and went to 3rd on a passed ball but they couldn't get her in. VM thought they had put the game away in the top of the 6th. Sierra Romero hit another solo HR, Segura walked and Sydney Romero singled. After a sacrifice Datil got an RBI single to CF and another run scored when the CF couldn't handle the ball cleanly. When the 1st 2 Wildcats went out in the 6th it looked like a Vista win was in the bag and it would have been if not a 2-base errror by the RF. Consecutive walks loaded the bases and a hit batter forced in a run. Sorenson then cleared the bases with a double to the gap to tie the score. Both Lindvalls walked, Janelle intentionally, to reload the bases but Ia'amilo got the final out. Since the umpires didn't get the word about going to ITB the game ended in a tie.

Carson 0 0 1 1 4 0=6
W.Ranch 1 3 0 2 0 1=7
Foster vs Barajas

The Wildcats wasted no time in jumping on Carson pitching. What should have been the 2nd consecutive single to start the game turned into a force at 2nd. They loaded the baseson a BB and a HBP and Walsh got the run home with a sac fly. In the 2nd M.Sorenson singled and stole 2nd and 3rd and came home on L.Lindvall's single. Big sister Janelle then followed with a HR just inside the LF foul pole. L.Lindvall took over pitching duties and Carson got 1 back in the 3rd. With 2 outs A.Barajas walked and D.Tautalafua doubled her in. In the 4th B.Tautalafua doubled, Edior singled and a ground out got the run home. West Ranch came right back with 2. K.Sorenson singled, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a bad throw from the catcher. Klepfer squeezed the run home and J.Lombardi singled home another. Just when it appeared the Wildcats had a comfortable lead the Colts came storming back. D.Tautalafua hit a ball to CF that looked like it was going out but was cut down by the wind and resulted in a double. Moeai singled to left for a run and singles by B.Tautalafua and Edior loaded the bases. Finlay singled in 2 runs and Foster returned to pitch. With 2 outs Herrera singled off the LF's glove to tie it up. West Ranch had a chance to win in the 5th but Peterson broke the cardinal rule to not make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd and tried to stretch a double into a triple. They went to ITB in the 6th but Carson failed to get the bunt down and went out in order. West Ranch did get the bunt down and the throw to 3rd was too late. K.Sorenson then provided a walkoff single up the middle.

It looked like it was going to be a blowout as Vista Murrieta pounded out 7 runs in the 1st inning but that was the end of their scoring and Carson kept clawing back. It finally took Bronco center-fielder Kylie Datil reaching over the fence to grab the game-tying HR.
Carson 0 3 0 2 0 0 0 =5-11-1
Vista Murrieta 7 0 0 0 0 0 x=7-11-1
Ta'amilo vs Moeai

Things started well for Brittany Moeai as she got the leadoff batter to ground out. After that, not so much. Cochran singled to RF and Sierra Romero, the newly-crowned Inland Empire HR queen, hit it over the LF fence. Ta'amilo singled to left, Sydney Romero was hit by a pitch and Swearingen walked to load the bases. THey might have gotten out of the inning but the first-baseman couldn't handle the relay throw from the catcher. Holmes walked to reload the bases and Datil hit a grand slam to cap the scoring. Carson got some of them back in the 2nd. Moeai led off with a single up the middle and Brianna Tautalafua followed with the 1st of her 3 hits. Edior beat out an IF hit and Finlay singled off the 1st baseman's glove for 2 RBIs. Ramos singled in a run but the next 3 hitters went down in order.

Carson came back for more in the 4th. Finlay walked and Ramos singled to LF. They moved up on a passed ball and Lamotte's IF hit brought in a run. She stole 2nd and Barajas singled down the LF line for another run. Ta'amilo then got D.Tautalafua and Moeai to ground out to escape further damage. Cochran led off the Bronco 4th with a single and Sierra Romero hit one off the CF wall but was held to a single. Two outs later Swearingen loaded the bases with a single to LF but Moeai got a ground out to leave the bases loaded. B.Tautalafua led off the 5th with a single and was sacrificed to 2nd. With 2 outs Ramos hit what appeared to be the tying HR only to have Datil reach over the fence to rob her. Carson tried 1 last rally in the 7th. Moeai singled to LF and B.Tautalafua was hit by a pitch. With the game on the line Ta'amilo proved the stronger and retired the next 3 hitters.

The Romero sisters went 7 for 7 but it was not enough as Saugus grabbed 6 early runs then held on for dear life before finally winning 9-7.
Vista Murrieta 0 0 1 3 0 2 1=7-11-1
Saugus 4 2 0 0 1 2 x=9-10-0
Burgin vs Garcia

Mendoza led off the Saugus 1st with a walk and Vergara sacrificed but the pitcher threw it away allowing the run to score and Vergara go all the way to 3rd. She scored on Shotzbarger's sac fly and Saugus led 2-0 without a hit. THose would come as Rodriguez singled to left and Layton smacked a HR to RF. VM got a gift in the 2nd but couldn't cash it in. Sydney Romero led off with a single and on the ensuing bunt Burgin foolishly threw to 2nd far too late. The Broncos tried to bunt again but it turned into a force at 3rd and they never got the runners in. Morrow led off the 2nd with a single but when the next 2 hitters popped out it looked like VM would escape. But Vergara blooped a single down the RF line and stole 2nd and Rodriguez cleared the bases with a single to right.

VM got 1 back in the 3rd on a Sierra Romero HR. Bad baserunning kept Saugus from getting it right back. Layton led off with a triple off the LF wall but tried to score when a pitch got away from the catcher and was nailed at the plate. This was especially painful as Bickford blooped a single to CF. The coeback continued in the Bronco 4th. Sydney Romero led off with a single and again an attempted sacrifice was thrown late to the wrong base. A single to CF loaded the bases but they got a fly out and a force at home and it looked like they might get out of it. But Cochran walked to force in a run and Cochran doubled in 2 more. The 6 run was down to 4. The Centurions got a break in the 5th when it looked like VM would score again. Sydney Romero led off with a single and with 2 outs Moore singled to RF. Romero rounded 2nd a bit too far and was thrown out 9-4.

Ta'amilo had come into pitch in the 4th and retired 5 of the 1st 6 batters she faced. Unfortunately th one she didn't get was red hot Alanna Layton who hit her 2nd HR. In the top of the 6th Saugus showed they had learned nothing about pitching to Sierra Romero and she burned them again with a HR down the LF line. To their credit, with their lead cut to 1, Saugus didn't hang their heads. Yacovone got an IF hit and Mendoza walked. They bunted both runners over and it paid off when Shotzbarger blooped a single to RF for 2 runs. Sydney Romero led off the 7th with a double but 2 pinch hitters went down on strikes before Moore banged a double off the left-fielder's glove for the final run. For those who like offensive softball, a totally enjoyable game.
