This happened in Spfld, IL, too. The guy was the league president and he was driving a Hummer. No lie.

He was convicted of stealing $40,000 and went to prison.

I can't believe that the board never did an audit in the 7 years that this woman was treasurer.

We had the same thing happen in our area with soccer, the treasurer took $100k that they know of and never did any jail time because her grandmother paid back the money.

This happen to a local youth association twice in a four year period.

Be viligant, and know what you will get for what you will pay. If you know that 80% of your fees pay for tournaments, uniforms, umpires, etc and it's easy to track that, I really don' t care if the last 20% gets donated to Haiti, is used to buy chalk for the fields, or goes into the president's beer fund (need to keep those summit's going ).

I've seen people cut a check for $2500 and then not really know what they just paid for and what other charges will be tacked on later.
