Today, January 17, is the 51st anniversary of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's famous farewell address in which he warned of the rising power of the military-industrial complex. America should have listened: war industry companies now spend millions on lobbying, take home tens of billions in taxpayer money in revenues, and their CEOs rank among the richest 0.01 percent of American households.

As we get ready to pay our tax bills, it seems an appropriate time to urge everyone to Rethink Afghanistan, a war that currently costs over $2 billion a month. Everyone has a friend or relative who just lost a job. Do we really want to spend over $1 trillion on another war? Everyone knows someone who has lost their home. Do we really want spend our tax dollars on a war that could last a decade or more? Do we really want to see that effort wasted by expanding military demands?

The military budget as a percent of revenue is at an all time low. I would much rather have an over equiped amd over staffed military that was not needed then the other way around. I believe more money is wasted in things like the departments of education, energy, agriculture, etc.
Also, I don't see how people that lost their houses due to bad personal financial planning has any bearing on how much money the government spend on the military. Not like that money would go to make their house payment or cover their LOC they took out against their house to finance their lifestyle.
