Fine.

The 3 insurance companies that insure the majority of Protestant churches in this country have reported that they receive an average of ~260 reports per year of child abuse by clergy, staff, and congregation members. The Catholic Church reported back in '07 that there have been 13,000 reports of abuse since 1950. That's ~228 per year and I think that's worldwide.

We probably don't hear about this because of who dominates the media outlets in this country and their feelings toward the Catholic Church.

oh oh...............jonriv, what say you?

The question in my mind is whether he is too humble to make those kinds of changes. It would be interesting to find out how he used his authority in previous positions.

That is US Catholic Church number(There are more Protestants than Catholics in the US-) On the Catholic side that is their sel-report number-which many believe to be understated. I am sure the abuse can and does happen accross all religions, but unfortunately it appears to be more prevelant with Catholic priests and the Catholic Church as an institution used its power to cover up and hide the problem instead of fixing it. There certainly has been some bashing of teh Church by the media, but a lot theyy brought on themselves. Again, I hope the new Pope does everything in his power to rid the church of these predators

Provide data for an apple-to-apples comparison (i.e. same timeframe). It's safe to say that going back to 1950 greatly reduces the annual average.

That's what I kinda thought too, but I just posted what I read somewhere. I suppose if I had a dog in this hunt, I could/would research this further and provide better info. It certainly doesn't matter to me which religion has the most abusers. I don't follow any of them.

I wasn't really trying to compare Catholics and Protestants. Just wondering if 260/yr would be considered rare. Of course jonriv never actually said that abuse in the Protestant Religion was rare, just that we rarely hear about it. I gave my opinion on that in my last sentence.

Just like he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing, Obumbles II was preparing just in case he got the nod for Pope.

That pic is way off base with Pope Hope. He would have taken the name Mohammed.
