http://www.chick-fil-a.com/StoryMy Son, The Hungry Army RangerI picked up my son, 2nd Lt. Matthew O., the day after he completed Army Ranger School. If you don't know how grueling this training is please take a moment to read just how incredibly difficult this training program is. Less than 50% of soldiers who begin this training EVER graduate, only 15% of soldiers graduate after passing all three phases without being recycled. It is 61 days of pure hell, extreme food and sleep deprivation. Matthew passed with no recycles. After picking him up the FIRST thing he asked for was to drive through Chick-fil-A. After getting the food we went straight to his apartment in Columbus, Ga. Before he even showered (no shower in several weeks) he sat down, grabbed his 3 bags of food and sat at his computer catching up on life.
If you look closely you can see his cheeks, which were very hollow when I picked him up, are stuffed with food, specifically Chick-fil-A fries!
I left the room for a minute and when I walked back in, this sight almost took by breath away. An American soldier who had just been told he was heading to graduate as an Army Ranger, sitting in front of the flag of the country he loves so much that he is willing to go to war. He is a 25 year old college graduate who chose this path after college because he truly loves America and the gratitude he has for the soldiers who came before him that affords us the freedom and life that most Americans take for granted.
He has loved Chick-fil-A all of his life so it just seemed to fit – him, the flag, and an American tradition - Chick-fil-A!
Our soldiers and their families sacrifice ALL! I think this picture captures so much!!
