Sorry PIWO..

Not that things aren't happening to change the Earth..just that..like many things reported...
it is always grossly exagerated...

Is the world going to come to an end in our lifetime, our children's lifetime or their children's lifetime...etc

You can't sell me that ticket...

I think that there are things changing in the global weather, the difference is that these things have been changing since dinosaur time. The tough thing for me to swallow is that

a) the looney toons want us to make drastic changes because of global warming
b) the looney toons dont know exactly what is changing
c) the looney toons dont know why its changing in provable scientific terms
d) the looney toons keep screaming that we have to change
e) when we ask what, the looney tunes say 'Something - we have to change something - we
dont want to just sit there and wait do we? and we say 'wait for what' they say 'well -
more and power full hurricanes, water rising everywhere, etc etc. We are having less
hurricanes, and the weather phenomena (the recent snow and the predicted colder and wetter winter ) that is happening around here was completely
predicted by our weather people here as caused by 'el Nino' not the global warming
boogieman and again the looney toons keep yelling 'global warming'.
f) the big one for me, any group that is headed and lead by the looney toon of all time, Al Gore, has absolutely no credibility at all.

Fifteen years ago, I brought a group of boy scouts up to a large wildlife reserve. Two scientists from a large university happened to be there and went on our tour. They talked on and on about global warming and its effects. As we looked at the various animals and plants, one of the scout kids looked at an abandoned red ant bed, and said 'How come there are no red ants there?' One of the scientists looked at the other and proclaimed "Well, because of global warming, those kind of insects are moving north - the climate doesnt work for them anymore." The other professor was nodding his head like a bobble head - this highly trained scientist (me) said "Have you ever heard of fire ants, sfb? - the fire ants that invaded this area are killing off the red ants." (fire ants came to the US via a ship that was carrying some kind of cargo - and they have spread widely and caused a lot of problems). Anything that happens that these sfb's cant explain is caused by global warming and there isnt a whole lot that they can explain so we are in that 'target rich enviroment' area of non-explainable items.

Donnie,

Are those ants related to the "Africanized Bees " that were going to migrate 20 years ago and terrify the U.S...?
Another Theory..that of course, didn't pan out...!!

As far as the "loon" too..you hit the nail on the head there..

How about throwing in....biggest hypocrite...!!

Gotta love Al Gore...

Lets travel the globe talking about Global Warming and how I should do my part by buying an electric lawn mower and only flushing the toilet once a day..

AHHH...let's see....private jet...check...limo...check...8000 sq. ft. house in Tennesee....check

Thanks for doing your part...AL

So Donnie, Maddog, et al ... I agree that much of our changing global weather MAY be a natural occurance that has been taking place since before forever ... and I agree that many people blow their 'sky is falling' horn over zealosly ... But, do you agree or deny that industrialization, deforestation, polution and many other by-products of human activity have a negative impact on our planets ecosystem ... Is our planet so big that we can't effect it ? And IF there is something that is negatively impacting our planet that is within our power to correct, should we correct it or stick our heads in the sand and let the next generation worry about it .... I remember reading somewhere that some Native American tribes made decisions based on how it would impact the 7th generation into the future ... of course the Europeans had gunpowder, so it didn't work out too well for them ...

G, we dont need the b/s that the Gore-its are spewing out to know that deforestation without restoration, and pollution is completely wrong (- but industrialization? ). For Christs sake, visit Las Angeles, one of the most beautiful places around - except you cant see it for the incredible pollution. I drove through there once after a cold front moved through, I had never seen the mountains there before. In the last 6 months, we managed to change our average family auto mpg from 13.3 to 27.5 - thats 4 vehicles - I am hoping that we reduce oil imports to the level that the Arabs and Iranians have to drink their oil.

I spent a lot of time out in the wilderness when I live out west - and a clear cut logging area is one of the ugliest things you will ever see. Arizona did forestry very different - they way they selected trees to harvest, you could be camping in an area just worked, and not know that the foresters had just left.

Also, I have been on some Indian reservations, please go visit and spend time all over the res and then come back and tell me about Indian's love for the environment. Their methods of feeding them selves was to move to an area, wipe out every thing edible in that area and then move on. Wasnt wrong to them - thats all they knew, but they shouldnt be held up to be models of eco-protection.

PIWO,

Make no mistake...
I agree that you cannot just "bury your head in the sand"..and people can do their part...
I do feel that people try to "do their part" as best as possible...including myself..
Another part of the puzzle in most 3rd world nation do nothing to help and that would worry me more than what can be done in our own country..
But once again, the so called "know it alls" always want to jump on the bandwagon...
and it is always exagerated..
Deforestation for example..The Amazon basin is wasting away etc..
New studies show, the average to be less than 2% and showing that the forrest "adapts" accordingly..
A volcano erupts under seas and raises "water temps at an alarming rate and is going to destroy all species in that area"...only to find that the species have adapted to the new environment..
We actually take better care of our " Earth" today with industrialization then we did 50 years ago...and yes..changes made to pollution laws etc helped out accordingly...
Yes many more people..using many more resources...this ..I understand...but JMO..
The Earth has always adapted and I believe ...always will...

I don't believe that is historically correct ... I think they moved from Winter to Summer camps and back again based on migration and available food sources back in the day ... recent history is something else ... but my point was that thinking 7 generations down the road is not such a bad idea ...

Deforestation ... HFS ! ... Here in VA they are creating a single species forest ... there is very little selective logging or 'thinning' taking place .... they go in and rape the land, replanting only pine ... they would be better off, and often do just let the forest regrow itself ...

Agreed .... the Earth will adapt ... I'm not so sure our species will be here to see it or we would recognize it... and perhaps that is the way it is supposed to be ...

I will agree with you on this...just think the number is in the hundreds of years or even thousands as opposed to the "ones" that say it in the tens of years...

P.S. Donnie..I still see the love for AZ coming through....AZ misses you too...
