Unfortunately it wasnt just a union fiasco that brought down Hostess. This company has been mismanaged for years. Unions didnt help though.

Yes it was mismanaged but the unions had the decision to work under the mismanagement or not to work at all. It looks like they chose not to work.

They did have management problems over the years, a lot of turnover at the top, but the current top management were making $1 per year.

Thats $1 Each, of course. Greedy executives!

Read the Daily Manifesto?
Okay, I did anyway. And no, I wouldn't have taken the deal, but I wouldn't have still been there in the first place. The guy has been there 13 years and all that time the union has been steamrolled by management, degrading his pay and benefits, in other words, doing nothing for him. So he works at a poorly managed company with an ineffective union. If all I knew how to do was bake I would have long ago moved over to a well-managed bakery company, probably one of those profitable non-union outfits. He says he moved once before for his work, now he has the opportunity to move again and hook up with Little Debbie or Bimbo or any number of places where good experienced bakers can find a job, and now he can make decisions based on what is best for himself and his family, and not have to pay into a collective that failed him. Millions of people change jobs every year to come out ahead of where they were previously. Now he can too. With a minor tweak in his perspective, he would see this as an opportunity to better himself and his family. :D

Hostess has an outrageously complex delivery system the union has forced on them. If your truck carries bread, the union insists it cannot carry other snack products, and force the company to add other drivers and trucks for the same delivery route.

This union has resisted every single attempted efficiency the company has proposed for years, and I think they have had their fill. Keep in mind, Hostess already declared bankruptcy and was attempting to restructure the business so it could come out of bankruptcy, and the union will have nothing to do with any plan that requires their participation in reforming Hostess’ labor problems.

Twinkies can survive a nuclear holocost but not the unions and the obama economy!

Management gave themselves a huge pay raise not to long ago, then rescinded it. As the CEO said, there was enough blame to go around to all parties.

Hostess was screwed along time ago though. This was just a very slow death with the bakers union finally smothering the dying with a pillow.

Modern worker's unions serve no real purpose other than to give bargaining power to a group of individuals who shouldn't have it. At one point in our history, unions were necessary because of business owners like Carnagie and Rockafeller. However, those days are long gone as modern legislation and an army of lawyers looking to get paid are just as capable of "protecting the rights of workers" as a union. Worker's unions in the current status amount to basically communism, with the least productive worker receiving the same benefits and PAY RAISES as the most productive worker, even if they don't deserve it. The end result is that everyone's productivity goes down.

Its no wonder that businesses like GM or Hostess go bankrupt or that every major business in Cali leaves for greener pastures.

Speaking of unions, SEIU, obama's favorite thug union, is going to shut down LAX today from 11am to 4pm. I hope no one has a kid coming home for Thanksgiving get stuck in this mess. And if you voted for obama and you get caught up in this union shut down, all I can say is "enjoy".

Yeah, they're advising people to allow an extra 90 minutes to get to the airport.

Un-f'g-believable the LA Police Commission gave them a permit to do it today. You can email them at contact.lapdonline@gmail.com.
