Apparently no one here has ever seen Carlos Santana lick his fingers before letting the sparks fly off the fretboard.

Can you imagine Jimi singing with Roy, " I searched the world over and thought I found true love. You met another and plplpl you were gone"

It would be more like ... I searched the world over and excuse me while I kiss the sky then a dueling guitar break where Roy is watching his hands and Jimi is playing with his feet  And since we've mentioned dead guitarists several times, mine ( Roy Buchanon ) one of them ... Yes, I saw him at the Felt Forum in NYC before he hung himself ...

I just re-read the title of this thread ... Skarp, did you mean LIVE or ALIVE ?

Live...so Stevie Ray Vaughan, for instance, is an acceptable choice.

And I'm just assuming that the responses will fall in the rock/blues genres. Obviously there are classical guitarists who could eat all of these guys' lunches without breaking a sweat.

Charlie Sexton at 15-year-olds on stage at Antone's, Austin, Tx. cir. 1983. The greatest guitarist you've never heard of. I've seen Stevie Ray, Van Halen, and Carlos Santana all live in small venues . . . wow!
