If you turn up the volume loud enough, you can hear him saying RREEEEBBEEEELLLLSSSSSSS. I know he was just trying to pump himself to make the sale, so why did the other guy flip his wig? :o  :o

So with all the hits, is HB getting any new sponsors? Great job.

Fastpitch softball is live and well

Live or alive...but not well.

DD is playing club volleyball for the first time this year and the experience has been eye-opening. Tournaments in Houston and Dallas, and I can't tell you the thousands of kids who are involved in this sport. Both tournaments were held in huge convention centers w/ miles of volleyball courts. More disheartening, is how many of these kids used to play fastpitch. On the other hand, take a look at VTD and note the numbers of tournaments 'canceled due to lack of participation'. The same with our rec leagues in North Texas. Ten years ago, they were bursting at the seams, building new fields, attracting all kinds of new athletes. IMHO...if the rec leagues die... select will follow suit...although a small, hard-core group of Heybuckets types will survive.

Whoever or whatever organization is running volleyball has their act together...and it's about time ASA, AFA, Triple Crown, USSSA or whoever take note and get their act together. The vball orgs are very organized, consumer driven, family friendly w/ programs for elite travel teams down to the club (local) level. I didn't see any tournament scheduled in Midland, Texas either. Middle schools in Texas offer volleyball as a no cut sport while softball isn't played until high school, so they're getting a pretty good head start.

Finally, while mine and some others don't mind the heat, sweat and dirt around a softball field, Sally Snowflake and her parents sure don't mind the A/C, clean, no contact game of volleyball.

..just a word of warning for those who think the state of softball is headed in the right direction.

I like volleyball, too. But nothing beats the open concession stands where the dirt lands and the flies camp out. And don't forget the porta potties. Now, you can't get those in volleyball.

No, no! Volleyball is a beating! It's that they're running a much better organization targeted to the young female athlete and it's about time ASA or whoever get their act together. I've seen the decline in numbers in softball over the past ten years...and it's depressing.

You're spot on though, why would any 10-16yr young lady turn her back on the skid-o-cans(porta potties)...

As long as the subject of v-ball has come up, I have a question. Why do the girls wear the spandex shorts(?) that are two sizes too small? That can't be too comfortable. Why not softball sliders under some fancy shorts?

It looks like someone already has their hand on her "dibs". Or was that you sneaking into the huddle?
