Five? Are you kidding?

Phiippes - Los Angeles...home of the French dip. Great pigs knuckles too

La Superica - Santa Barbara...best Mexican food in SoCal

Gene & Gerogetti's - Chicago....maybe not the very best steaks (i.e. the Chop House in Chicago) but the atmosphere combined with the food can't be beat

The Kitchen - Sacramento..The best dining experience I've ever had

Sushi on Fire - Huntington Beach...just a fun place with very good sushi

Lou's in Huntington Beach also has great bbq chicken..we love to stop there after practice

The Robert Morris Inn - Oxford, MD...the crab cakes are so good I want to have them flown in

Top 5 personal food joints in so cal:

1. Tito's Tacos - Culver City, Ca - 6 cashiers always 5-10 deep, 10am to closing 7x365. All beef burrito w/cheese = unbelievable.. i think people either love or hate this place. no in between...
2. Str8 from Philly - Venice Beach, Ca - Best Mushroom Cheese Steak w/ Sauce that I know of and i search these things out.trust me on this one... da stuff is flown in!
3. Musashi's - Northridge, Ca - #1 Teppan table, great sushi chef, etc... - best filet mignon/chicken combo in LA
4. Smokehouse - Studio City - Not a bad item on the menu, alot of history and large portions - garlic toast an all time best.
5. Emilios - Encino - If you are a salad fan, best chopped salad with bacon/turkey or choice... routinely see stars and you walk out under 40 for 2 if you dont drink alcohol.

honerable mention:
The Bear Pit - North Hills - Daily lunch special choice of beef, chicken or pork sandwich on Garlic bread is incredible. Its right about where the 5 & the 405 come together if you are on your way to/from fresno and need a place for a group to eat... large group tables in the back...

ummm,,,, getting hungry....

Enrique's Mexican Restaurant – Long Beach CA. The Pork Shank is unbelievable and enough food for 2 two.

The Original Fish Company – Los Alamitos CA.

Papa Cristos- Los Angeles– I agree with GSB great Greek food. Growing up the only way my mom could get me to go to church across the street was a promise to go to Papa Cristos Deli. Now the restaurant is worth the trip to LA but I end up dropping $100 at the deli on my way out.

Village Tavern Scottsdale AZ – American – The Grouper Hemmingway is great. Eat in the bar, great atmosphere.

Felix Continental Café – Orange CA – Cuban, Try the Felix Cafe Combination or the Caribbean Delight

Honorable Mention-
Beachwood BBQ- Seal Beach. Great BBQ, Sweet Potato Fries and beer selection.

Phiippes - Los Angeles- Lamb Sandwich, Potato Salad, Pickle, Custard, 10cent iced tea and I still find room for a Dodger Dog at the game afterward.
Don't you know bout the bird...Everybody knows the bird is the word.

Philippes - Used to be good, no longer is. The sandwich is so small now that you need 4 just to fill you up. Very, Very, Very overpriced and the new owner changed the meat supplier. The best French Dips are at the originator of the French Dip, "Coles" on 6th Street.

Yang Chow - Yes, Yes, Yes, on the 800 block of North Broadway in China Town. You got to try the pan fried noodles with chicken. Yum.

Pinks - For hot dogs, they are the best.

Tito's Tacos - I agree with sportzjunky, I will drive over there (Culver City) once a month to get my fix.

Captain Jacks - Seal Beach, use to be one of the best. No longer lives up to past reputation. I live close to it and have witnessed the decline. Food is no longer fresh and many, many complaints of it being spongy. Overpriced and always a wait 1 hour or more. I made reservations there about 6 years ago and still had to wait 2 hours for seating. Food was real bad as well.
To each their own.
