This is the first I heard of this story. I guess I don't watch the news enough (just Sportsenter). This guy was a nut-job. He previously had a 50 year sentence for rape reduced to 9 years. I think they should treat pedophiles like murderers and give them life or lethal injection.

And how creepy, the van just disappears.

Just keep that in mind - you are right. 3-4 years ago, one of the sick fs (a paroled sex offender) grabbed a 10 y/o girl, she and her dad had eaten at an IHOP, he was paying , she ran to the car, he yell 'wait' she ran anyway. He finished paying - gets out to the parking lot , hears his daughter screaming, runs over and finds this 68 y/o guy struggling with her. He beats the holy shit out of this guy, kicks him, stomps him, trying to kill him. Police get there ( thank God they came to save the f) , the EMT gets there, one of them is a friend of mine. He refuses to treat the guy, thinks that if he can hold off, the f will die. His super comes and forces him to 'do his job' which he finally does. True story - the important thing is someday you may be in the same situation. Kill him.

The kid you save by killing him could be some one you know. A real possibility.

Again, I can't understand how there are so many of these guys walking around out there when it is so easy to find them. Everyone they abducted/raped/abused/killed presumably has relatives.

Its something you have to be very careful about. After an incident, the police know the relatives of the victim and know where they live. They visit often to make sure there is no vigilantism happening - they remind over and over, that the victim would be hurt twice, once by the initial incident, and then second when the relative takes action and then goes to jail.

It wouldnt be an issue in cases where there are plain simple evidence (DNA) that is easy to retrieve - but in some cases that is not possible. So then it takes serious detective work, and these kind of convictions are very difficult - so the police work on the easier crimes. Then the relative has to work on his own, and it takes a long time to be sure. But even then, you dont have convictable proof.

So what do you do? Kill him - and risk going to jail - put up signs saying 'we know who you are ' - a possibility, find him on a dark night - and make sure that he loses the wherewithal to commit that crime again, all possibilities. What you dont do is give up - and all it takes is to see other young kids around that are possible next victims.
