Yes.

For coolstuff and carolina: have you considered that Obama has already committed to spending more additional money over the next 9 years than was spent, in inflation-adjusted dollars, on WWII, the Louisiana Purchase, the Vietnam War, both wars on Iraq, the New Deal, and the Marshall Plan, combined?

The preposterously huge bailout/stimulus plan has, by the administration's own admission, already done about as much as it's going to do. Is the country doing well? Was that smart, in retrospect? Are you comforted by the fact that the government can't even adequately account for how over 300 billion of that money was used?

These guys are spending us into oblivion, trashing the constitution and the concept of limited government that it embodies, and putting us more and more under the government's thumb in the process. (See Barney Frank's recent quote: "We are trying to expand government involvement on all fronts."). The spending is unsustainable even before you factor in all of the additional spending that Obama proposes. The impositions on liberty are unconscionable.

But hey, if it feels good, do it. In this country even the ignorant and delusional get a vote.

I also find it interesting that the past few weeks have featured revelations confirming that numerous high-level appointees of this administration are, according to their own statements, unapologetic Marxists and socialists (see, e.g., Anita Dunn). Statements from others in the administration (e.g., Ezekiel Emanuel) confirm that they do indeed intend to ration healthcare, most notably with respect to the elderly and the very young.

All of these are claims that conservatives have made for some time, and that Obama apple-polishers pooh-poohed as name calling and fear mongering.

If you actually bother to listen to their own words, past and present, and to examine their associations and memberships (rather than listen to their water-carriers and apologists in the MSM) it isn't hard to figure out where these people, including Obama, are coming from...and it's the hard, radical, Marxist left.

That's if their radical left policies aren't enough to convince you...

Finally, coolstuff and carolina, as persons who profess to have "compassion," how compassionate is it to bequeath to subsequent generations a staggering amount of debt? The current level of federal debt and obligations, averaged on a per-household basis, stands at close to $600,000.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington ... debt_N.htm

By the time Obama is done, each household will owe far more than $1 million dollars, and debt service will constitute fully 40% of the annual federal budget. And this doesn't even include all of the debt being accumulated by irresponsible liberal governments at the state and local levels. As any economist will tell you, the detrimental affects that this will have on our economy (productivity, job market, investment climate, talent retention, etc.), not to mention tax revenue base, are astronomical. And of course standards of living, including such things as access to decent health care, will fall off dramatically.

Does that sound compassionate, or remotely responsible, to you? In all seriousness, if you continue to support Obama's plans for the future of this country now that they have been laid out, I can conceive of no other explanation but that your brains are addled.

Don't forget the debt that Bush ran up to finance the wars he started. Also TARP was a Bush policy.

But... if you know anything about economics, you will realize that our economy is driven by consumers and businesses spending money. That is not happening, as you can plainly see. So, the government has to spend money to keep the economy going. Deficit spending is in fact sound economic policy in the long run, as the economy improves, so does tax revenues, which the govt. slows down spending, and we have a surplus, which pays off the debt. This has happened before, it will happen again. It's happened in the US, and countless other capitalist countries. Be mindful of your history.

lol. Okay professor, when was the last time the government "slowed down spending" during times of plenty in any appreciable way? And which other capitalist countries ran up huge national debts and then paid them back down? The countries you speak of (that you must be speaking of, because there aren't any others) are all now essentially socialist democracies, with high debt and the endemic economic problems present in all socialist states. Be mindful of your history my friend.

Deficit spending is healthy, to a point, when debt isn't already roughly equivalent to the entire GDP, and when debt plus unfunded obligations isn't already equal to 5-7 times GDP. Continuing to run up deficits--especially record-setting deficits--under those circumstances is idiotic in the extreme.

If Obama plans to slow down spending when better times return, he must be expecting a hell of a protracted recession...because his spending policies, mostly in the form of entrenched entitlement programs, seek to put us on the hook for record budgets and record deficits for the indefinite future.

There is no such dichotomy as “human rights” versus “property rights.” No human rights can exist without property rights. Since material goods are produced by the mind and effort of individual men, and are needed to sustain their lives, if the producer does not own the result of his effort, he does not own his life. To deny property rights means to turn men into property owned by the state. Whoever claims the “right” to “redistribute” the wealth produced by others is claiming the “right” to treat human beings as chattel.
