Apparently yes, according to "gay and lesbian advocates," who interpreted a picture in the Wall Street Journal of Elena Kagan playing softball as "clearly...an allusion to her being gay."

Ummm...okay.

If you think your daughters sexuality has not, or will not, be questioned based on her love of softball, you are naive.

There are many homosexual assumptions still being placed on female athletes. The funny thing is, around here volleyball players are viewed as "less gay". That couldn't be further from the truth.

Try being a single woman in the military that plays softball. You are viewed as a lesbian, a ho, or a bitch. If you aren't one of the first two, you're automatically the last one for not being one of the first two. And that my friend, is the origin of hair bows. :D

Your DD's or anyones sexuality being questioned by pubescent adolescents or another soldier who will say anything as justification for the reason why he can't get into your pants is little bit different ... or should be, me thinks ...
... still, one would wonder why they used an old foto of her playing softball ... were they just looking for something that matched the dynamic headline " Court Nominee Comes to the Plate " ? ... who gives a crap whether she is wearing bows or ribbons as long as she does her job ...

All of which may very well be true, but here we have "gay and lesbian advocates" themselves arguing from the very same stereotypes that they claim constitute ignorance and intolerance. Not a surprise to anyone who actually understands the left, of course, because to them no person or principle is above being sacrificed when a given political battle calls for it.

Lots of softball players are gay. The large majority are not, and one would expect the gay community to know that perfectly well. Broadly publicizing the idea that playing softball is a reliable indicator that a person is gay is not only problematic on their own terms (about which I care very little), it also does damage to the sport, which I do care about. Hence my post.

Now if you're a single woman softball player in the military, the chances are somewhere north of 99.99% that you are gay. ;)

A good friend of mine has a daughter at West Point who plays softball......and she is straight. So, I guess she is one of the .01% that are not gay yet fit the description. But, who really cares if softball players are gay or straight? It's not like a person is going to "turn" gay by hanging around them. Believe me, at the Univ. of Maryland, when I was on the field hockey team, I was surrounded by lesbians......and I am DEFINITELY NOT gay! ;)
