Coach Wooden is hospitalized in grave condition. Coach Wooden has left a legacy that is so much more than coaching and championships. I urge anyone who hasn't read his books to do so. I promise it will make for better coaches, players and people. His principles and life lessons are invaluable, and I am grateful to have watched, read and learned from him.

Dating myself, but as a youngster my father took me to Pauley Pavillion in the early 70s, where I saw Bill Walton & Co. extend their 88 game win streak. I was also fortunate to work for someone who actually played for Coach in the early 60s as a walk-on. He learned life lessons from his humble coach that brought him life success. 10 NCAA Men's Basketball titles in Wooden's final 12 years is an achievement I doubt any other team will surpass, let alone match in any sport. His Pyramid of Success is a must read for any walk of life, including coaching. God bless Coach Wooden. Thank you for the great legacy you left us all.

I'll really date myself. I was at the first game ever at Pauley when the freshmen team lead by Lew Alcindor beat the defending NCAA champion varsity team. My brother played on the freshman team with Walton, Wilkes, etc. as a walk on. You are so right about the life lessons.

He will be missed. But more than that, the character and principles that he embodies will be missed. They don't make them like Coach Wooden any longer.

Asked in a 2008 interview the secret to his long life, Wooden replied: ``Not being afraid of death and having peace within yourself. All of life is peaks and valleys. Don't let the peaks get too high and the valleys too low.''
