To Clean or Not to Clean?

Prior to the purchase of a good, composite bat, I was at a tournament and saw a sales rep cleaning his demo bats. I asked him about what he used and it was Soft Scrub non-abrasive cleaner. So when I invested the $ to buy DD's first composite bat, I remembered what the guys said and the DD and I have been cleaning the bat eversince. Another dad on DD's team said I shouldn't clean the bat as the dirt, leather, rubber remains add "traction" to the bat and increase the likelihood of a solid hit. Fact or fiction?!?!?!?!?
