Here are six Socialist Conundrums in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Western empire lasted 400 years until th fall of Rome. If you count the eastern empire that lasted an additional 1000 years until the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Sign me up

It is sad that there is a portion of the country that feels this way. Luckily this is the US and there is a bunch of others that think the other way(as well as a group that are too apathetic to care) There is a real myth in this country that the poor are getting poorer http://www.creators.com/opinion/walter- ... oorer.html

There is also lots of myths (like those from the Communist Senator from Mass. Elizabeth Warren) that the rich control everything and that the game is rigged etc. All that might be true, but they never account for social and economic mobility. Just take a look at the companies that composed the Dow Industrial avg in 1970- now compare to the current list.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/ ... story.html

According to Thomas A. Garrett,[31] a US Treasury study of income mobility from 1996 to 2005 found that less than half (between 40-43%) "of those in the top 1 percent in 1996 were still in the top 1 percent in 2005. Only about 25 percent of the individuals in the top 1/100th percent in 1996 remained in the top 1/100th percent in 2005." The study reassured Americans concerned about the "long-term trend of increasing income inequality in the U.S. economy" (after-tax income of the top 1% earners has grown by 176% percent from 1979 to 2007 while it grew only 9% for the lowest 20%) of "the opportunity for upward mobility" in America: "There was considerable income mobility of individuals in the U.S. economy during the 1996 through 2005 period as over half of taxpayers moved to a different income quintile over this period"; 80 percent of taxpayers had incomes in quintiles as high or higher in 2005 than they did in 1996, and 45 percent of taxpayers not in the highest income quintile moved up at least one quintile[32]

the first guy to tip me $100 (right out of college working as a mgt trainee @ prestigious Jewish country club in MD) was Jerry Wolman who reflects exactly what Jonriv has posted.

Wolman owned the Philadelphia Eagles & was an initial investor in the Flyers & went Bankrupt while building the Jon Hancock building in Chicago. He lost it all, got it back, lost it all again & got it back again over a decade & then retired & became a philanthropist.

His words of wisdom to me (aimed at the GM & his 2 Asst) were "Don't let 'em f__k with you kid"

This conundrum is the view of American Socialists, not mine. No wonder they are miserable people.
But our government is getting into this dangerous habit of picking losers and winners.
