NorCal

Roseville regional

by ssarge » Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:20 pm

Can someone post a link please. Not sure what I am doing wrong but I can't find any info for the regional.

Here you go:

Best regards,

Seriously, not trying to be a smart ass. I'd really like to know the answer. Has ASA Nationals become so unimportant that a NorCal team won't enter a tournament in it's own back yard with a ONE in THREE (or better) chance of qualifying? Against exclusively other NorCal (no SoCal) teams?

Wow.

Here's my shot at top 3 reasons:

1. Premier: There were effectively more association berths available due to some top NorCal teams going to Premier instead of ASA/USA Nats.

2. Cost/Economy: It is a lot less expensive for NorCal teams to play Westerns in Roseville. Second-tier teams may not feel confident about being competitive in Midland to spend the extra money.

3. Location: Midland, TX! You can't get there from most places - you have to start from someplace else.

Are there teams not on that list that would put on a good showing at Nationals? If not why go?

Are all divisions cancelled? They still have teams listed as playing 12U and 14U?

sacramentoasa.org has updated now. It looks like 14U is still on (only 6 teams), but the 12u portion is gone. Two years ago, when 12U Western Nationals were in Tracy and USA Nationals were in Alabama (or some other crappy state, I don't really remember), there were only 3 or 4 teams at both the national qualifiers and regionals, with SoCal teams walking away with both bids. They still held the tournaments. Last year, with 14U Westerns in Colorado, there were a ton of teams for the qualifier and the regional.

Breeze 97 won this tourney and qualified for ASA Nationals in Midland.
