Grapettes Fall Showcase shout out

by GameTime23 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 11:06 am

I think a little water and chalk is a reasonable request for the cost of these tourneys. I notice a work crew working hard but just not enough of them to get the job done. I even asked the crew about it and the guy responded that the TD was informed that they needed more support.

I won’t even get into the umps. Couldn’t even see the good ones with all the bad ones this weekend. You would think with 14’s it would be better? Somebody should monitor games and evaluate these umps and give them feedback and supervision

I would take little of that money made this weekend and put in back into the basics (chalk, water, staff and umps) to ensure a positive softball experience.

A lot of teams were avoiding certain organization tournaments this past spring/summer. Please don’t take these teams entry fees for granted now that many have return to play this fall.

Well I know that the head of all umpires in our area was working the 14u games this weekend, and I heard people were blasting the umps about having people that dont know what they are doing, and she knows as much as ANY of them.

When you have that many games in that many different venues, you are going to get what you get. That has nothing to do with the TD. The TD informs the umpires that they are playing x amount of games with x amount of teams, and then the umpires take it from there. It isnt like the TD determines which umps are where. It is just the way it is when you have a tourney this large.. It sucks.

As far as field prep before games... i wont disagree with you. But at every venue my 16 and gold team were at, fields were watered Im pretty sure before EVERY game we played.... and that was 10 games worth. Same with chalk.

It's all good Iluvblue and Thanks for your input abouts the umps and TD. Nor Cal teams deserve improvment in this area for sure.

I was only speaking on the 14's I observed this weekend.

Seems like Fall tournys have more competitive team playing than this past Spring/Summer.

We were allowed to bring in coolers at McNair and that was appreciated. Fields were watered and restrooms kept clean & stocked. It's a big improvement over last fall. Gotta given props for trying where they can.

It will be interesting to see how they work for the next tournament. IMO Regional Park should only be used in an emergency or for raising sheep

Nobody likes to use Regional.... but sometimes they need to and really have no choice.

Its too bad someone couldnt take that place over. If someone were able to get a cheap lease from the county, they could turn it into a decent place, just like Dennis did up in Sac. When he first took over some of those fields he uses, they were awful. But a little TLC has done wonders:)

Credit where it's due, the new nets at Arnaiz are a big improvement. Very few foul balls into the stands, and no brain-crushing line drives. Also, field prep this last week was very good at the RR tourney, and they had a guy in the parking lot to keep the number of car break-ins down to single digits. Cooler nazis are still in full effect, but you can't have everything.
