They cant pay for an "OFFICIAL" visit until a kid is in her Sr. year, yet 80% of players (just a guess) are already committed prior to their Sr season. This means that kids are going on "Unofficial Visits," on their dime. Which essentially makes the "Official" visits worthless IMO.
So, lets get the rules in line with the reality of the recruiting process. Make the official visits happen during kids JR seasons. Solves this problem.
Schools have now turned their "Camps" into huge fundraisers all the while dangling the carrot in front of perspective student athletes to draw them in.
We hear from so many schools that they are interested in player x, so have them come to our camp. That is great, except that i dont really believe the interest is always legit. I know that the kids the schools are REALLY interested in, they do their work and watch the kid and get them over for an unofficial visit and make offers,,, right now.
So that tells me that the vast majority of schools that want to see kids at camps are simply using that kids desire to get a scholarship as an enticement to get a free look at a kid, AND raise funds.
Time for NCAA to set a limit on what can be charged. How bout we charge these kids 20 bucks to go to the "Camp" and lets see how many players are then not asked to go to the camp.
Some things are stinking to me NCAA, and it is the players getting screwed IMO.
Had a school we were talking to about a player tell is to have her come to the 200 dollar camp. Uhm... youd be damn lucky if this player even gives you a sniff, and you want them to go your camp? yeah right.
