Where is your team going and why? Not very many teams signed up for ASA's association tournaments this year.

Our team plans on chasing a Premier Berth. We would like the opportunity to have our girls play against the best competition and see what they are capable of doing.

There are more ways to spend your money in Softball. Being the best team in the nation isn't the goal for a lot of teams. It seems exposure trumps being the best, and when you consider there are only a handful of teams who can be the best team in the nation you have to choose.

* You have Colorado Fireworks/Sparkler/Sparkler Jr
* TCS 14U WS has a bunch of very good teams. You don't have to qualify to be in it and it's in a great location. TCS 16/18 in Reno/Sparks is an option as well.
* Certain teams who would have played if not invited to PGF. This is what makes PGF such a factor. For Ca teams if you can get it it's a no brainer.
* There are only a few teams left who aren't going to PGF AND would put on a good showing at ASA Nationals. Being from NorCal PGF for most is more desirable.
* ASA Nationals is not always the best place to get to, and again you have to place top 1,2,3 (metro dependent) to get a birth. If you haven't finished in the top of any tournament or haven't been competitive it's a sign your money is better spent elsewhere....like Co, TCS.
* It seems to be worth it for some teams to do TCS and try to get a PGF bid. If you fail the TCS WS is a great EOY tournament in 14s

With all that being considered there are only a few teams left that would do well at Nationals that aren't in the PGF mix and most of those teams are in their metros.

Which teams in Nor-Cal should chase the PGF dream and actually have a shot at the top prze? (12,14,16,18)
Which ones should settle for the second best in ASA or TCS??

So if you don't get in to PGF, and very few will, then is the season over?

Used to be many teams if they didn't get into ASA Nats they would play ASA Westerns, or Triple Crown. Now it's PGF or bust?

After seeing how things have unfolded in the So Cal Championships (PGF NATIONALS) I would have to say If my daughters team is good enough to qualify for 12u Nat's or PGF next year I hope her coach is willing to travel. I think PGF has done a great job with the tourney and looks like they are on top of everything. That said for 12s this is nothing close to a Nationals, I agree probably the best teams in the Nation are there but part of Nationals is playing team from all over the US.

PGF: 44 teams, 30 from So Cal, 9 from the Greater NorCal Area, 3 from AZ, 1 from Texas and 1 from Bama. Way to many teams just invited as well.

ASA Nat's: 82 teams from all over the United States. Other than the West Coast teams had to actually qualify. (PGF told teams if you qualify for ASA Nat's on the West Coast we will give you an atomatic invite.)

I get the fact ASA picks some places nobody would like to go I just feel you get a true Nationals with 82 teams from all over the US. A Nor Cal team or an AZ could go to Luck of The Irish in Vegas or play almost any So Cal Tourney during the year and see the same teams they are playing right now.

If your team is any good from 2nd year 14s on you will pretty much live in So Cal, College coaches are not watching 12s YET so let them have a true Nationals Experience.

"Good enough to qualify" isn't really an issue. Just find a team whose plan is to go to ASA Nats and they can get a berth. BTW, ASA 12u Nats will be in Chattanooga, TN next year.

Teams do have to play in a qualifier, however 12u berths are passed down/out in most areas to whomever wants them. This is reflected in the fact there are only 82 teams instead of 150+.
