by MysticOrg » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:13 pm

This past ASA Turkey tournament we faced a team that had 17 listed on roster for bracket game but not pool play which ended up taking over 25mins of game time switching subs not to mention the 10 mins. of wasted time opposing coach had with arguing with umps. Opposing team listed 5 players from its sister team that did not fair well in pool play, when you have no new @ 1:25 hr and 35 mins taken can someone please tell me "Bush league" ????

Mystic, that person was asking a rhetorical question:)

Teams should not be bouncing kids from one team to another on a Sunday like that. If team A loses, team A's players are done for the weekend.

You occasionally see that when a team is missing players and doesnt have enough. I usually see it when teams bring in a pitcher:)

I gathered that, Usually this is the case borrowing a player or 2 but subing fresh bats every other bat kills the game at hand. Seems like teams can abuse DP/Flex .....

I am pretty sure adding players to a team from another team in the same tournament is against ASA Rules. Though teams seem to this this at will quiet often it is against ASA rules. Once a team has entered a tournament for competition the roster of that team is locked for the weekend. Players are also not permitted to dual roster in the same weekend even if they play for the same Org. Problem is most TD's do not require a roster for the weekend. If you are in a tourney which requires you to turn in a roster prior to the weekend. Simply call time when one of those players is subbed in and reaches base and ask for a roster check, the team is then forced to forfeit when that player is ineligible for using a player from another teams roster.

This happened to a team this fall in 12u which was actually using players who were non ASA registered players. Also happened last year to a team who pulled players from one team to another to try and get past Sunday by using a pitcher from another team in the same tourney when her team got eliminated.

There is a big difference between an ASA qualifier and a local tourney.

I am really not aware of ANY specific rule that would keep this from happening. It should not happen, but local tourneys just do not follow ASA rules to a T.

Most players do not stay down in Fall for an age group that they can not play in Summer, but occasionally it happens.

I know the rule book pretty well, and I dont ever even remember such a thing being addressed. Now in a Qualifier, you are limited to playing for the team that has rosters checked and verified, but NO LOCAL tourneys I am aware of EVER USE ROSTERS. So if they dont use rosters, how can you keep it from happening?

Teams shouldnt do it, it is just wrong to take a kid from one team and move them to another in the same day after her team got beat on a Sunday.

I have had ENTIRE teams do this to us. Team A we are going to crush, so team A doesnt show up, team B shows up to play instead.

or team A all off the sudden has 3-4 key players from Team B show up to play for them. That happens actually often.... not the entire team thing, but the 3-4 players.

This was a big issue (at least in some people minds and maybe in reality) with Orgs that have multiple teams in a qualifier. The brackets come out, and then one of the teams gets put in the part of the brack more favorable to them qualifying over the weaker team.... at least that is what is suspected.

I had to boot a team on Sunday in an ASA sanctioned tournament because they used a player not on the verified roster to take the place of rostered player. In the line up card, the "new" player used the name of the rostered player. No one would have known except a mom who's DD was now sitting because of the new player blew the whistle. I bet that if there were rosters submitted for this tournament, the coach in question never "added" the new players, hence they can't play.

you had rosters in a tourney that was not any type of qualifier? I have NEVER seen this in an ASA tourney, only in NSA stuff.

I personally dont think rosters should be used in Fall, as too many times we are missing players for various reasons and borrow sometimes from teams in our own org. or from teams from outside the org.
