10U Top Team Rankings (NorCal) Results

by norcaldude » Mon Apr 19, 2010 9:04 am

What a weekend. I was able to see most of our Nor Cal teams in action on Sunday. The Cal Grapettes looked strong, followed by RR Gold. AA Mizuno "Garcia" was close. East Bay Vipers made had a strong showing in there win against the Cal Breeze and they were able to hang in there against RR Gold. The Cal Breeze and the CC Dirtdogs seemed to have fallen off this past weekend, but as we all know on any weekend anyone can pull it out. So here goes the Final Pre Fresno Classic Rankings.

1. RR Gold- Even though they came in second on Sunday they seem to have the best overall team out there. The showing they had down in Hemet and there overall play has been consistent. They have 2 very strong pitchers and a team of solid hitters. RR Gold seems to have the toughest bracket at the upcoming Fresno Classic. They play Team Watley #6 and the Jynx 99 #2 in So Cal.

2. Cal Grapettes- The Grapettes are showing that they are an up and coming team. They have played very tough in the tournaments that they have played in. They beat RR in the championship and AA Mizuno in semis. Grapettes have a very strong infield and strong hitters 1-4. Looks like they should do well on Sat in the classic, start with CC Dirt Dogs and Roseville Heat.

3. AA Mizuno (Garcia)- Mizuno is still tough. Not going to Fresno Classic. Could hurt them in the rankings.

4. CC Dirt Dogs- The dogs had a off weekend, but are still in the thick of things. Solid pitching and a very good catcher. Should have a good showing in Fresno. They will play USA Athletics #4 in So Cal.

5. Cal Breeze- Can be a strong team but they have not been consistent. A no show in Fresno could hurt them in the rankings.

6. East Bay Vipers- A scrappy team with alot of heart. Came back and beat the Cal Breeze and hung tough with RR Gold in BRATS tourney.

7. AASA- Had a decent showing in the BRATS tourney this weekend. Young team with alot of raw talent. Should have a decent showing in Fresno. They are also scheduled to play in Firecrackers Mother's Day Tournament in Cerritos,CA.

8. Roseville Heat- They will be at Fresno Classic.

9. CV Freeze- They played the grapettes tough early, but were not able to hold on. They will be in Fresno this weekend. They are playing in a tough bracket with the Firecracker99 and OCBB #1 in So Cal.

10. CC Intensity- I have not heard to much about this team. We should learn more after Fresno. Also in the same bracket with Firecrackers99 and OCBB #1 in So Cal.

11. Vacaville SWAT- Not going to Fresno

12. Nor Cal Smackers- Not going to Fresno

13. Salinas Storm- Not going to Fresno

To all Nor Cal coaches I will be sending you an email with a spread sheet for you to rank our Nor Cal teams. Please send them to me after the Fresno Classic.

Remember that this Ranking is not official. It just to let all the Nor Cal fans see where our teams stand. I want to wish everyone the Best of Luck in Fresno this weekend. Nor Cal needs to bring the Championship home.

Well the Grapettes and RR Gold made a statement this weekend. Mizuno AA also had a good tourney. 3 of the top teams in this area went head to head and Grapettes came out on top. Good Job. Too Bad Mizuno wont be at the Fresno Tourney.

Softbawler, gotta give it up to the Grapettes for playing very good in their own tourney. Hats off to the girls for playing their tails off, they could've easily folded but they didn't. With that said, RR could've and should've won that game if not for some horrible calls (not that the Grapes have that reputation  ) But with all that said and done, RR had their chances to put the game away but didn't, The final score is what counts at the end. Grapes are a force to be reckoned with, but one tourney doesn't make you #1. You must play the best and prove you can win on a consistent basis. RR has played in 4 tourneys and has played in the Ship all 4 times going 2/4. So until you can say that, it's hard to crown yourself #1. The Fresno tourney may be the tourney to prove your point. Good luck NorCal teams and give them hec!

Lot of great competition so far. Here are my top 10 to date. It's not perfect, because a number of the teams have beat teams in front of them, but I'm basing it on the consistency I've seen, depth, etc.

1. RR Gold
2. Grapettes
3. Mizuno All-American
4. AASA
5. CA Breeze
6. East Bay Vipers
7. CC Dirt Dogs
8. CV Freeze
9. Vacaville SWAT
10. Rocklin Hype

As someone else already posted, go NorCal 10U teams in Fresno!

That's a pretty weak statement
RR had 2 chances in the same tourney to beat the grapes and couldn't do it. I would say that put's Grapes above RR... at least for now.

Obviously, you only read what you want. You're actually miss-in-it  :o ;) I stated that RR had their opportunities to put the game away but didn't. But you cannot deny the fact that the blue had a big hand in keeping this game close. I saw the look and body language in the Grapes' coaches and they probably wouldn't admit to this but you could clearly see that they knew they got away with some horrendous calls. There were parents and coaches from other teams like me who stayed and watched this game and they all saw the one-sided calls the Grapes were getting. Nevertheless, you still gotta find a way to win it, even if you are competing against two teams in a game. One tourney, like I said doesn't make you #1. Fresno Force should tell us a little more and I'm hoping all the NorCal teams do well.

There were bad calls made that favored both teams! The same could be said for errors. I would say that they washed each other out! Again, lets not make what was a great game into anything other than that! To imply that umpires are making calls based on who is hosting the tourney is absurd! It happened to be the Grapettes weekend! It's over and the focus should now be improving on your strengths and weaknesses and on the task at hand. Winning the Fresno Force Classic!

Good luck to all players, families and coaches making the trip!
