Sorcerers coaching changes,

14U Williams, good duo that work well together and will be great for program, will need to add a 3rd coach at a minimum to make work. This age group only the top tier kids will get offers but recruiting will be important.

16U Schroll- Good with managing off field stuff, on field big question mark, needs some strong asst's as he is losing most of current staff, and serious help with recruiting side, but the Sorcerer name will help this team for sure and they will get GREAT exposure. This age group, coaching is crucial as these kids are the ones that are not quite ready or good enough for the Gold team and need to refine their skills, and that requires good instruction or these kids will just get lost. Crucial age group for the mid-level (9th and 10th grader) player looking to get to the show!

18G- Mello has no Gold HC experience and neither does his asst's (Anthony), who is good motivator and at gold level that is HUGE, as most of the kids on Sorcerers are committted and need to be pushed to compete. Mello is a sharp cookie though and should be fine adjusting to the pace of the game and personalities of players and recruiting demands that are put on you at gold level. They will need a solid 3rd coach and even a 4th to help handle the load. Hope they stay away from "daddy ball" when bringing on asst's, although it is not easy to find quality asst's that want to or have time to coach, without a kid on team. Mello already has two on team, so its going to be very important to maintain purity in the program, which has always had a biz model of no daddy's coaching at gold level. Going to be very interesting how this plays out!

Daddy ball only comes into play when the kids are not good enough to be on the field. We have played with Mello and he is a VERY competitive coach and pulls the best out of the players. Both his kids are great players and EARN their time on the field like any other player. As for not having 18 gold experience.., when we played with him on 16u, we played the majority of our tournaments at the 18 level. He is a saavy coach. Your daughter will have to have thick skin though because he demands you play at your potential and if you don't.., you will know about it. :-)

I would not hesitate to have my kid play for him again.

Have seen and heard good things about Mello over the years. Big shoes to fill over there at 18 level

Never said Mello's kid'(s) were not good, that is not the situation here. With the Sorcerer's, his kids will have to "earn" playing time with future PAC-12 infielders and Top 20 schools Outfielders, kids that do not enjoy splitting time, if you know what I mean. That team is stacked to the gills and you better bring your lunch, (anyone) if you want playing time. BTW i do not wish bad for him or his kids, matter of fact I wish him and his kids the best, but it aint gonna be no cake walk I guarantee....

Every top tier gold coach is super competitive, if you are not you will get chewed up and spit out.

Sorcerer's have always had a model of no parents coaching at Gold level, AND if you are around top tier Gold teams from around the country, which the Sorcerer's play every weekend, look around and see how many programs have "dads" as HC, not very many. Maybe Carda and Henderson but (their kids were both all world and it made no difference), always going to be exceptions but the norm is, nada!

BTW, HUGE difference between coaching 16's and playing up in a 18G tourney, and playing the Sorcerer's weekly schedule, its like the local HS football schedule , compared to Mater Dei football schedule, it nots something you can compare to unless you been there.
