After two big weekends, metros and PGF qualifiers, it's safe to say that the rankings got no clearer whatsoever. I don't want to take pool games into account, because some teams don't care about them. Double elimination tournament games with big stakes are the best way to guage it in my opinion, and that means taking the last two weekends and ignoring the rest (for the most part).
AASA, Silverstreak and Storm won their metros and then underperformed at PGF. There may be a relationship, as those teams did not need to play their top 9 every game with a nationals bid under their belts. AASA lost to KG Hitters and a SoCal team that failed to qualify at PGF, Storm lost to two SoCal teams that failed to qualify, Silverstreak lost both games to teams that qualified for PGF, but one was to the 96 Breeze team they beat the previous week.
Breeze 96, who lost to both Heat and Silverstreak in the Sac Metro, was the only NorCal team to pull down a PGF berth (beating Silverstreak and KG Hitters, but losing to AASA).
Sorcerer lost to Storm at the NorCal metro, but already had a PGF spot, so we didn't see them twice.
Lady Magic hasn't blown anyone's doors off this spring, and they didn't play in either tourney.
Breeze 97 won the Fresno Force tourney, and lost tough games in the final inning to Heat and Breeze 96, then lost both PGF games (Strikkers and the team from Washington).
Sting-Castillo qualified for nationals at metos, then lost to teams that failed to qualify for PGF.
Lady Hustle performed well at PGF, but I have no idea how they did at their metros (Oakland?) Same with KG Hitters. KG Hitters also lost both games to teams that qualified (and had the only pitcher I clocked at PGF north of 60MPH).
OBS was second in the Stockton qualifier and lost to the same teams as Silverstreak at PGF.
RR Gold was not at PGF, and got wiped out in their metro, but I saw that team play very well the week before metros, shutting out three teams on Sunday, including Silverstreak and OBS (my exception to only counting metros and pgf).
After all of that, I have no idea who's better than who, except to say that maybe any of those teams could beat each in any given game. So here's my meaningless, evidence free best guess :
t1) AASA
t1) KG Hitters
t1) Sorcerer
t1) Storm
t1) Breeze 96
t1) Heat-Edgar
t1) Silverstreak
t8) Lady Hustle
t8) OBS Monarchs
t8) SJ Sting
t8) RR Gold
t8) Lady Magic
t13) Grapettes
t13) Breeze 97
I know, it's terrible. With Sorcerer, Lady Magic and Breeze 96 down in PGF, and Silverstreak, Storm, Sting, Heat (and KG Hitters?) in ASA, I don't know that it will get a lot clearer. Even warmup tournaments can be played with very different goals the rest of the way. Maybe if Norcal teams win both (I know, I know, but NorCal did take 1st and 3rd in ASA 14s last year) they can have a friendly in mid-August for all the marbles.
