Guess what? There are only so many "prime fields". Just because you put FC on your jersey does not cause an established team to lose their spot or a new field to magically appear. Just like it doesn't mean your kid will play for TR one day. There are now hundreds of kids in the FC organization and last I checked only about 20 play on the Worth team.

Only nine actually play on the Worth team.

I had talk to the president of the Smash org during the spring and he and his wife were taking steps to help the girls with college recruiting. It Does't make sense to leave Smash when everyone in NorCal/Socal/United States knew who you were. Now your just another Firecracker team.
JMO..you have a great team with great girls....

Spaz you hit the nail right on the head. There are only so many prime fields to play on. The key is to be able to get a game with one of the top dogs and play them tough when you get that opportunity. Provided the top dogs are playing their top 9. Then and MAYBE then the powers to be will see you get a shot at the prime fields.

It was a joke, I think we are well aware they are Nor Cal kids. People on HB take things a little to direct at times. Not everyone on here is out to slam kids and coaches.

Best of luck Smash Crackers!!! That's a lil joke too in case anyone was offended by that. Sounds better to me then Nor Cal Firecrackers and it has a lil home town roots to it.

duh. you didnt get what i was saying either. or maybe youre too busy twirling around your living room telling yourself up is down and down is up.

we probably agree on one thing though. cant wait to see them play as Firecrackers

yes this is true, just because the FC is on the jersey doesn't mean they will play for TR one day. But as you have said in othe posts the big name orgs (FC, BB just to name a couple) draw more girls and attract for college coaches to games because they are known for quality teams/players. And with Norcal lacking the ridiculous amount of talent there is in Socal(not saying there isn't any in Norcal, just way more talented teams/players down there) the name will help to draw girls so they can stay competitive in Socal, JMO

So Smash 98 coaches and parents think that because you put on a FC jersey your player will get looked at?!?! And because you wore a Smash jersey no one was gonna look at your player?!?! Well IMO...it's all about the player and her dedication and abilities. Your player has to do a lot of work contacting potential colleges and coaches also..... A scholarship isn't going to just fall into her lap because she changed her jersey.

Good luck to the Smash players, keep working hard on the field.

They were already known as a top team on their own, not because of the jersey they were wearing.

I know nothing about this team, both DDs in college, and I'm not into softball for the sake of softball enough to follow anybody that my DDs didn't overlap with. Disclaimer done.

How about the flip side of this discussion? Can it hurt this team to have FC on their chests?

It seems, by the alumni lists on the web sites, that if you want to play for top 20 programs, that A LOT of the girls come from the "big name" orgs (FC, BB, etc). Coaches the same, girls the same, parents the same. How could it hurt to have FC on their unis?

Not that many exceptions. The obvious example up here being Lady Magic (at least through their 2011s). They got on the "first 4" filed in HB by winning in 12s, 14s, 16s. "Taking care of business." as Jim always said. Can be done, but not easy. I can't imagine it would have been HARDER for them to do that had they changed their name and had some more specific attention from TR or similar name recognition. You only have one chance at this. I don't see how it can hurt.

In all honesty I don't care what org they belong to.

It is easy to root for the smaller guy, or the team that can stick it to the man per say. They are now affiliated with the man. It's like if the A's somehow became part of the Yankee org. The A's are just always competitive even though they work with less so you have an appreciation for them. The little team had the ability to start tradition. Instead they were acquired. In the business of softball it would have been cool to see the little guy grow to be a big dog, which I thought the Smash98 team was doing already.

So again...I'm pro "I hope it works out." But then again...if we beat them we can always say we beat the Firecrackers :)

ICM,

I was a big Star Trek fan, and what you say reminds me of that show. Its like the Borg.... "You will be assimilated."

These big organizations need to work harder at developing the players they have to stay where they are, but instead, they just want to sit back and wait for the next big team to come along, and then bring them in.

I remember many years ago when the SJ Strikkers kicked butt at Gold nationals with a young stud pitcher. The next season, that young stud pitcher was bye bye and playing for the big dog.

You will be assimilated.... resistance is futile:)
