NorCal

12U Spring/Summer Ranking

by godogs » Sun Jun 19, 2011 8:06 am

I guess you have arrived when after winning 35 games in a row, 5 straight tournaments, played every team within a couple hundred miles, played in the biggest tournaments in the area, beaten one of the "Big Dogs" from SoCal (Corona Angels 98) and the argument is that they had some close games??? Yeah, Arizona State lost 6 games this season, they're not that good :) The arrogance that SoCal has is comical...yeah, you think you're good, so come to us...as was posted earlier, you can come to NorCal if you want to play them so bad. As for chest thumping, 95% of the posts don't come from Smash...as for this post...I am with Smash. The girls have had a wonderful season and everyone is proud of what this team has acomplished, just like I'm sure every other team is proud of their girls. Maybe we'll see you in Alabama.

You all have to be kidding right? Just because a team wins another tourney, its time to start questioning the teams method of winning? If you look at most of these top teams they were all either stronger once before or weaker.Smash was one that was weaker. They struggled last season with most of the same team. Now they are winning. Looks like a team that actually works on its players weaknesses and builds it up in fall. If my kid struggled in a position and finally stepped up in some games, I'd like her to build up her confidence and prove she is consistent before I move her up. Whats wrong with a team testing their skills on local teams they were beat by in previous seasons? my kid plays for a big box org and we have enough money to travel to so cal too much. Perhaps this is just an attempt from some sour NorCal teams so far in the season. I can tell you this I saw this team practice and play. Their program is different than any other program my kid played for. My DD will take a crack at try outs in fall. Its time to step away from the big box.

Smash has more than proved they are a top Norcal team if not the top Norcal team right now however, if they are planning on going to Nats they really should head south (if theres still time) to get a feel for the level of play that will be at Nats. Not alwaya but I'd say most of the time a good Norcal team is lucky to break the top 20 at Nats. (The reason I say lucky is because of how important the draw is)
You have a bad draw and the chest pumping (pride) could be eliminated real fast.

Socal teams don't need to come up here, there already playing at the level of teams they'll have to beat to go deep at Nats. (I hate saying that but a fact is a fact)
If you show no mercy... you deserve no mercy!

The Dirt Dogs come down here and play and don’t do that well against our mediocre teams. I'm sure the Dogs haven't played the BIG CATS . I'm just asking.

Pretty funny SitOnTheBench. Gotta agree about the chest pumping that gets posted on here from Smash. You have to admit when your rolling on teams 12 to 0, 16 to 0, 11 to 0, or whatever all those scores were in your previous posts. If your beating most of the 12's teams like that, I would think it's time to find competition more within your range. Play up more maybe....give your team a challenge. IMO would of been a good idea. When Smash plays the handfull of top 12's in this area it's usually a close game but how often do you find all of them in the same 12's tournament. NEVER!

Norcal, you make some interesting points. Im just trying to understand your comment from your point of view. No Im not with Smash, lol!

Im curious to know from your perspective at point, threshold or winning level do you think a team ought to test skill level in LA?

When Smash plays the handful of top 12's in this area it's usually a close game but how often do you find all of them in the same 12's tournament. NEVER![/quote] this is a great point! What teams are you talking about? After looking at some of their tournament schedule, it looks like they played the top 5 a couple of times at least. Do you think they running or please help me understand. I don't want to assume.

When looking at some scores they don't beat 12u that badly often. How would a winning team gauge their skill level if they don't play in tourneys with teams they haven't played? Looking at Grapes schedule they never played Smash. sounded like a clash of the Titans only one team lost in this tourney.

like I said, you made some good points that I agree and disagree with.

I also a smash parent and I'm just a little curious what chest pumping we have done....I do believe the only smash parents on here r me and godogs...I'm sure of that and I looked back at r post and nothing like that was on there...kinda funny that when some great coaches and some really talented and hard working girls who play with the heart of a lion start to play good... there r those people out there that want to tear them apart these girls work so hard it's scary and ask them if they don't want to go to practice and u might get your head ripped off every last girl is there and ready to go...so think what u want to there is no chest pumping going on here we r just proud parents.... As I'm sure most of us on this website are...just worry about your own teams and if u r good enough to beat us we will tip our hats to you and be on our way....

I can vouch for this work ethic smash parent. I know one of the kids on your team. Trains 5 days a week HARD! If it's an idication of what your teAm is doing, dedication is certainly a big one of them! This girl is a machine! Great family also. Good job smash!

Giving credit where credit is due no doubt is my philosophy... with that being said Socal teams are hands down great teams...No one has once mentioned on here that if Smash was to play down south they would do as well as they are doing up north...Now on the other hand who is to say that Smash would not hold their own down there, they have great coaching and dedicated players. Great job Smash!

First of all, Happy Fathers Days. I apologize if I ruffled any feathers, actually I meant too, JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!
And yes I am curious, and NO! I am not knocking the teams hard work, coaching and all their accomplishments. Let's not go there. The reason I asked why Smash doesn't come to the south and play our top teams is because, I see the Dogs (One of Nor Cal TOP 10) have made several trips here to play. Do you think they came here to play down :?: I don’t think so!!! I think it's smart of that coach to come here to play and get his team ready for a run for Nationals or Western. We have teams from Arizona and Ohio that come down here to play.

Like Missinit wrote,

And also The Dogs are a good team and well coached. Good luck Dogs!!!!!!

With all due respect to the dirt dogs, smash is a few notches better (IMO) than them and I honestly think they would compete well with so cals top teams. Although they beat CA98 10-6 when we were up there for the fresno tourney, you could ask anyone from smash and they'd say it was a better game than the score said. Reguardless, it would probably be a good idea to come south and play fc98, BB98, Victory, ca98, usa a's, breakers or some other top rated teams to see just where you stand b4 going to Nats. One weekend and you could play six quality teams down here to benefit your VERY GOOD team. Good luck and we hope to meet up with you again soon!!!

Congratulations to everyone who won their Metro and recieved a berth! To all those who have sent PMs and emails, thank you for your patience. I've been super busy and its taking a bit of effort to assemble all the results of the tournys over the past couple weeks.

In the meanwhile, please let us know how everyone did at metros and who will be attending nationals.

By the way, Norcal lets stop all the bucket hate. There is plenty of love to go around - even for our Socal Friends.
